Missing Cash in Buccaneer Bay Holiday Cards

OMAHA, Neb. – The holidays are a time for family and tradition, but for some, the distance between loved ones makes it difficult to be together. In such cases, sending a card with a gift inside is a common way to show love and care. However, in a community south of the metro, residents are raising concerns about holiday cards being lost or stolen, leaving many families heartbroken.

John Fey, a resident of Buccaneer Bay, has taken on the role of Santa for his grandchildren by sending them cards with checks. “The kids are scattered all over the country. This one is going to Baltimore,” he said.

Despite his efforts, John and two other residents have noticed that many cards sent from their home mailboxes are not reaching their intended destinations. “Here’s five of our kids who never got their cards,” John explained, highlighting the growing frustration among neighbors.

Mike Gabriel, another resident, shared a similar experience. He had sent two cards with $50 bills inside, only to later realize they were never received. “You’re mad because you lost the money, but more so because the money you sent for these kids was never delivered,” he said.

Pattern raises red flags
Residents are beginning to suspect that something is seriously wrong. While it’s easy to dismiss one or two missing cards as an accident, the pattern of multiple incidents has raised alarms. A reporter noted that there are 14 Facebook posts from residents in Buccaneer Bay who claim their holiday and birthday cards never arrived, despite being placed in their mailboxes.

“This isn’t just a few people; it’s a significant number,” John said. “It’s too many to be a coincidence.” Mike agreed, adding, “There must be something going on here.”

The mail from Buccaneer Bay is processed through the Plattsmouth Post Office, where the postmaster has only stated, “We are delivering what we are receiving.” From there, the mail likely moves to the main post office in Omaha. A spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service confirmed that they take allegations of discarded, lost, or stolen mail very seriously and conduct thorough investigations.

Dwayne Paustian, another resident, shared his own troubling experience. “I sent a birthday card with $20 in it to my grandson, and he never got it. Now I’m thinking I was stupid for sending money in the mail.”

Cash cards potential target
John pointed out that five missing cards contained checks that have never been cashed. Mike added that the color of the envelope might indicate the presence of money or a gift card. “If someone sees a card that looks like it has money, they might be tempted to take it,” he said.

For the residents of Buccaneer Bay, the issue goes beyond the financial loss. It’s also about the emotional impact on their loved ones. “You feel bad because the card didn’t make it there. Then the kids are thinking, ‘Hey, it’s my birthday and I never heard from my mom and dad,’” John said.

The homeowners have taken action by filing reports with the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office, although the office has not commented on whether an investigation is underway. They have also reached out to local authorities to address the growing concern.

As the holiday season approaches, the residents of Buccaneer Bay are hoping for answers and a resolution to this troubling situation. For now, they remain vigilant and determined to ensure that their messages of love and care reach their intended recipients.
