Lily Collins Opens Up About Balancing Motherhood and 'Emily in Paris' Filming
Lily Collins Balances Motherhood and Filming for Emily in Paris Season 5
Lily Collins, the actress known for her role as Emily in the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris, has opened up about the challenges of juggling her new life as a mother with the demands of filming the show’s fifth season. The 36-year-old, who recently became a first-time mother through surrogacy with her husband, film director Charlie McDowell, shared her experiences in a recent interview.
The fifth season of Emily in Paris began filming in May in Rome before moving to Paris later in the summer. Collins described the experience as both rewarding and difficult, emphasizing that she is just like any other new parent trying to manage the responsibilities of a newborn while keeping up with her professional commitments.
In an interview with The Sun, Collins said: "You have a different purpose and it's really tough... It's a struggle and I'm just so grateful to be able to do both." She added, "I said to everyone this year, 'I'm really good with memorization, I'm really good with knowing my lines, but this year give me some grace. I've not slept, I'm very tired and I may not be on my game.'"

Netflix released the new trailer for the upcoming season earlier this month, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect when the show returns on December 18. The clip shows Emily adjusting to life in Rome with Marcello, played by Eugenio Franceschini, and includes a heartfelt conversation between Emily and Gabriel, portrayed by Lucas Bravo. The scene leaves fans wondering if Gabriel will return to Paris or explore new opportunities in Rome.

The synopsis for season five describes Emily facing professional and romantic challenges as she adapts to life in a new city. It also hints at potential conflicts and setbacks, including a work idea that backfires and a big secret threatening one of her closest relationships.
Earlier this year, Camille Razat, who plays Emily’s friend and love rival Camille, surprised fans by announcing her departure from the show. The French actress, 31, shared an emotional goodbye post on Instagram, expressing gratitude to the cast and crew while hinting at her future projects.
Razat wrote: "After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris. It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories."

She also mentioned that she has recently wrapped two other series and launched her own production company, Tazar Production, which focuses on music videos, short films, and a developing feature film. Her co-stars, including Lily Collins, responded with support, with Collins sharing a heartfelt message: "Love you sister. It’s been a wild ride and an absolute pleasure. You’re a rockstar. So proud of you."
As Emily in Paris prepares for its fifth season, fans are eager to see how the story will unfold, especially with the possibility of Gabriel being written out of the show. With Lily Collins navigating the challenges of motherhood and her career, the upcoming season promises to be both exciting and emotionally charged. The show will debut on Netflix on December 18, offering a fresh chapter in Emily’s journey.
