Lawrence O’Donnell Slams Susie Wiles as 'Worst White House Chief of Staff Ever'
Lawrence O’Donnell Criticizes Susie Wiles as “Worst White House Chief of Staff Ever”
MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell recently made headlines by calling President Donald Trump “far more cruel” during his current second term than he was in his first. He placed significant blame on Susie Wiles, the current White House chief of staff, whom he described as “the worst White House chief of staff ever.”
O’Donnell began by referencing recent comments from Vice President JD Vance, who told Vanity Fair that Wiles does not influence the president to serve the national interest but rather works solely to “facilitate” Trump’s vision for the country. O’Donnell took issue with this characterization, stating that it perfectly encapsulates why Wiles is the worst chief of staff in history.
“The other four Trump White House chiefs of staff are the other four worst White House chiefs of staff in history,” O’Donnell said. “But they all — the other ones to varying degrees — at some point tried to steer Donald Trump away from some of his worst instincts. Donald Trump’s second term in the White House is far more cruel and inhumane than anything Donald Trump did in his first four years in the White House.”
Wiles’ Controversial Statements
Wiles has made several controversial remarks in recent interviews, particularly with reporter Chris Whipple for Vanity Fair. She described the non-drinking president as having “an alcoholic’s personality” and operating under a worldview that “there’s nothing he can’t do” while in power. O’Donnell pointed out that these statements reflect a troubling alignment with Trump’s behavior.
“According to JD Vance, we have Susie Wiles to thank for that because she does not believe she should, quote, ‘serve the national interest,’” O’Donnell said. “She believes her job is to make Donald Trump’s deeply perverse vision come to life every day.”
Wiles has since claimed that Vanity Fair intentionally misinterpreted her comments to create a “negative narrative” about Trump. However, O’Donnell argued that her statements were damaging and unrefutable.
Wiles’ Incompetence and Lack of Accountability
O’Donnell criticized Wiles for her lack of accountability and failure to guide Trump away from harmful policies. He noted that she never informs the president about potential legal violations and has not attempted to stop him from falsely claiming that other nations, rather than American consumers, pay for his tariffs.
“She’s choosing to do that for someone she described as having ‘an alcoholic’s personality,’” O’Donnell said. “Wiles’ breathtaking incompetence has been on display every day of the Trump administration, but she goes to a new level of incompetence in statements that she made to Chris Whipple on tape that she cannot now refute and are the most harmful things ever said publicly about a president by that president’s White House chief of staff.”
Wiles’ Comments on Trump’s Behavior
Wiles also reportedly told Whipple that she hasn’t seen Trump “throw anything” or “scream” at anyone during his second term, contrasting it with her experience during his first campaign. O’Donnell dismissed this as naive, pointing out that such comments would be published and scrutinized.
“Imagine being so dim that you think you can say something like that to a reporter who’s taking notes and recording what you’re saying and he’s going to publish it,” O’Donnell said.
He further criticized Wiles for not holding Trump accountable for his actions, including his false claims about tariffs and his handling of international relations.
Wiles’ Shift on USAID
Wiles also shared her initial reaction to Elon Musk’s role in reducing funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). She admitted she was “initially aghast” at the move, believing USAID did “very good work” in distributing humanitarian aid. However, she later changed her stance after working within the administration.
O’Donnell argued that Wiles’ primary goal is to support Trump, regardless of how “sick and perverse” his plans may be.
Conclusion
O’Donnell concluded that it would be nice to think there are smarter people working for Trump, but there is no evidence of that. His critique highlights concerns about Wiles’ influence and the direction of the current administration.
