Apple Music coming to ChatGPT — what's the update?

New App Integrations for ChatGPT Expand Its Capabilities

Earlier this year, OpenAI introduced a groundbreaking feature that allows users to access popular applications directly from the ChatGPT interface. This feature, known as "apps in ChatGPT," has already been rolled out for several major platforms, including Spotify, Zillow, and Canva. Now, the company is expanding its reach with more integrations, signaling a significant step forward in the evolution of AI-powered tools.

In a recent post on Substack, Fidji Simo, CEO of applications at ChatGPT, highlighted the addition of new apps to the feature. She mentioned that the company had previously launched integrations with partners like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow. The list continues to grow, with upcoming additions such as Adobe, Airtable, Clay, Lovable, OpenTable, Replit, and Salesforce. Developers will also have the opportunity to submit their own apps for review, potentially creating a vast ecosystem of third-party integrations.

Apple Music: Missing from the List

Despite early reports suggesting that Apple Music would be part of the new app integrations, it appears to be absent from the official announcement. This omission has raised questions about whether Apple Music will eventually be included or if it has simply been delayed. Given that Spotify has already been integrated into ChatGPT, it seems unlikely that Apple Music would be entirely excluded. However, no official confirmation has been provided yet.

How the Feature Works

The "apps in ChatGPT" feature operates by automatically activating when a user mentions a specific application. For example, if a user asks, “Make me a Spotify playlist for a lively party this Friday,” ChatGPT will recognize the mention of Spotify and launch the corresponding app. This functionality extends to other platforms like OpenTable for restaurant bookings or Canva for graphic design tasks.

This seamless integration enhances the user experience by allowing direct interaction with external services without leaving the chat interface. It also opens up new possibilities for productivity, creativity, and convenience.

Availability and Future Plans

While the feature is currently available to all regions except the European Union and the United Kingdom, it is expected to expand further. Users in the United States, both free and paid plan subscribers, can already access the feature. OpenAI has been gradually rolling out these app integrations, releasing them in small batches over time.

So far, the announced integrations have focused on well-known platforms. However, OpenAI has hinted at broader plans, aiming to create a full app store where any developer can build and submit their own applications. This could lead to an extensive range of integrations, covering everything from mapping services to e-commerce tools and niche image editing software.
