Wrestling legend makes bold move following Trump's 'incredibly cruel' Reiner comments

Mick Foley's Break with WWE Over Trump Ties

Professional wrestling legend Mick Foley has decided to end his association with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) due to the organization’s connections with former President Donald Trump. This decision came as a surprise to many fans and industry insiders.

Foley, known for his iconic personas such as Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love, made the announcement on social media. He cited Trump's "incredibly cruel" reaction to the tragic death of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, as the final reason for his decision.

"I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy," he wrote on Instagram. "Last night, I informed WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office. Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June."

Despite his strong words, Foley expressed his deep appreciation for WWE. "I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, 'I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.'"

Foley, who is 60 years old, had a storied career in professional wrestling before retiring. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, the same year that Trump was honored for his guest appearances at televised WWE events. His departure from the organization marks a significant shift in the relationship between the wrestling world and political figures.

While WWE has not yet responded to Foley’s statement, several figures have voiced their support for him. Former WWE manager Jim Cornette praised Foley, stating, "he just became my favorite person in the world" in a post on X.

Trump's long-standing connection with WWE has been a topic of discussion throughout his presidency. Wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, who passed away in July, have appeared at major political events, including the 2024 Republican National Convention. Additionally, Linda McMahon, former WWE CEO and estranged wife of Vince McMahon, was appointed as Education Secretary.

Foley has consistently criticized Trump over the years. Before the 2024 presidential election, he called Trump "an obvious con man who is only out for himself" in a social media video where he endorsed Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate. In a direct message to Trump, he said, "I made the decision not to call you a ** bag, even though you are one."

Foley is among many public figures who have expressed outrage over Trump's comments following the deaths of the Reiners. In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that the couple died from "massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."
