Tia and Tamera Mowry's Honest Reflections on Their Twin Connection

The Legacy of Tia and Tamera Mowry

Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry-Housley have shared a unique bond throughout their careers, both professionally and personally. Their journey began in the mid-1990s when they rose to fame as separated-at-birth twins on the television series Sister, Sister. This role not only introduced them to a wide audience but also set the stage for a long-standing partnership in entertainment.

Since then, the sisters have continued to work together in various projects. They appeared in Disney Channel's Seventeen Again, alongside their brother Tahj Mowry, and were central figures in the Twitches franchise. Additionally, they starred in a Lifetime movie titled Double Wedding and even co-hosted their own reality TV show on the Style Network.

One of their most memorable moments came from Twitches, where they famously chanted "go twitches, go twitches" in unison. Tamera recalled during a 2022 appearance on Today that this was an improvised moment. "We were so shocked and surprised with happiness that [it was] what stuck," she said. "My sister and I looked at each other, we did the lame [hand signal] and also the ‘go twitches, go twitches.’ We'd pause for a little bit [and go] ‘It's your birthday.’ We made that up on the fly."

A Deep Bond Through the Years

The sisters' relationship extended beyond their professional endeavors. They served as maids of honor in each other's weddings to Cory Hardrict and Adam Housley, respectively. However, after Tia and Hardrict divorced in 2022, the sisters experienced a period of distance.

In a September 2024 trailer for her docuseries My Next Act, Tia expressed her longing for the closeness they once had. "I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her, but that's just not where we are right now," she confessed. A source later clarified that Tia was referring to the physical distance between them due to their different locations, not a rift in their relationship.

Despite this, the sisters have remained supportive of one another. Tamera has consistently stood by Tia following the divorce, expressing her support and admiration for her sister's strength. "I support her. So whatever she wants, the Mowrys have her back," Tamara said on Today. "I love her dearly. She is strong, but I know right now, she just kind of just wants to, you know, just kind of process it all, take it all in and be a little private about that. As a sister, I'm just going to respect that."

Family and New Beginnings

Tia and Tamera have also shared a deep connection as aunts to their nieces and nephews. Tia and ex-husband Cory Hardrict share son Cree and daughter Cairo, while Tamera and Adam Housley are parents to son Aden and daughter Ariah. The actresses have often spoken about the joy of being aunts and the inspiration they find in each other's parenting journeys.

In 2011, Tamera praised Tia for her ability to balance motherhood, acting, and business. "She is so inspiring because she is juggling being a mom, being an actress and being a businesswoman at the same time," she told Us Weekly. Tia, in turn, expressed her excitement about becoming an aunt after Tamera gave birth to Aden in 2012. "I am so thrilled and happy to be an auntie," she said. "I now know the love that my sister has for [my son] Cree, it is overflowing."

Reconnecting and Moving Forward

In 2020, Tamera reflected on the significance of Sister, Sister, calling it a blessing that inspired many at a young age. "Representation matters," she wrote on Instagram. "I'm so grateful and I am so excited for our generation to relive one of my fav jobs in history! And I'm ecstatic for the newer generation to discover this show, now on @netflix."

In 2024, Tia opened up about the challenges of being a single mother and the emotional impact of her divorce. "Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce," she said in a My Next Act teaser. However, she also emphasized that the distance between her and Tamera was not a result of a falling-out, but rather a natural shift as they grew into their own lives.

In a December 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tia clarified that there was no rift between her and Tamera. "Everybody thought that there was this huge rift or distance, and that was not the case," she explained. "We all grow up. We all have our own families. Yes, there's distance, because we all are doing our own thing, but when something is important to you, or when it is a priority, you will make time for it."

Tia and Tamera have made a pact to reach out to each other once a week, ensuring that their bond remains strong despite their separate paths. "So as long as we make time for each other, that's all that matters," she said. Tia also praised Tamera as a great mother, highlighting her ability to balance her ambitions with her responsibilities as a parent.

The Evolution of a Sibling Relationship

As Tia and Tamera continue to navigate their individual lives, their relationship remains a testament to the power of family and the importance of staying connected. While they may not be as close as they once were, their shared history and mutual respect continue to shape their dynamic.

Their journey from childhood stars to independent adults has been marked by growth, challenges, and moments of joy. Whether through their work in entertainment, their roles as parents, or their ongoing support for one another, Tia and Tamera Mowry have left an indelible mark on the world—and on each other.
