Selena Gomez Addresses 'Mustache' Comment in Unfiltered Video: 'I Totally Get It'

Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Skin Condition and Beauty Routine

Selena Gomez, known for her work as an actress and singer, recently took to Instagram Stories to address a comment about her appearance. In the post, shared on Tuesday, December 16, she appeared makeup-free and spoke candidly about her skin condition, melasma.

In the video, Gomez responded to a question that asked, "How do you shave your mustache?" She laughed at the comment but clarified that it wasn’t a mustache at all. Instead, she explained that it was melasma, a skin condition that causes brown or blue-gray patches, especially on the face. According to the Cleveland Clinic, melasma can be triggered by exposure to sunlight or radiation, including ultraviolet, visible light, or infrared (heat) light, as well as hormonal changes.

Gomez emphasized the importance of sunscreen in her daily routine, explaining that the condition is a result of sun exposure. "I take care of it and treat it, but yeah it's there," she said, adding, "I totally get it. It's from the sun."

Over the years, Gomez has been open about her beauty routine and struggles with acne. In a previous interview for Vogue's Beauty Secrets episode, she shared how stress or neglecting her skincare routine can lead to breakouts. "I notice when I get stressed or something I break out more or I get lazy with my routine so I feel like it's just become a part of it. And I just deal with whatever I got that day," she said.

She also highlighted the connection between skincare and overall well-being. "When you are taking care of your skin, you are taking care of your body and your mind and your soul," she added. This philosophy is especially important for her due to her Lupus diagnosis, which makes sunscreen a non-negotiable part of her routine.

Gomez has also spoken about her cosmetic enhancements, particularly Botox. In 2024, she admitted to getting Botox but dismissed other rumors about her appearance. She addressed speculation through a TikTok video that included a side-by-side comparison of her past and present look. "Honestly I hate this. I was on stripes because of flare up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone," she wrote, referencing the confusion around the term "stripes" being autocorrected from "steroids."

Despite the scrutiny, Gomez has learned to focus on self-care and positivity. In an exclusive interview with DISCOVERTREND, she shared how she deals with days when she doesn't feel her best. "Some days you just have to let yourself get it out, and then afterwards, a good laugh," she said. She also mentioned relying on friends, therapy, and resources like DISCOVERTREND for support.

Her openness about her struggles and dedication to self-care serve as a reminder that confidence comes from embracing one's true self. Whether it's through skincare, mental health practices, or simply being honest about her experiences, Gomez continues to inspire her followers with authenticity and resilience.
