Jazz McKenzie Claims 6th on 'The Voice,' Aiden Ross Crowned Winner

Jazz McKenzie's Journey on "The Voice" Season 28

Jazz McKenzie, a soulful vocalist from Alabama, delivered two standout performances during the finals of "The Voice," showcasing her talent with renditions of "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" and "drivers license." Her coach, Michael Buble, praised her saying, “You are perfect. You are meant to be a star.” Despite her impressive performances, McKenzie did not win Season 28 of the NBC reality series. The outcome was determined by viewer votes during the two-part finale, which aired live on Monday and Tuesday.

Aiden Ross was declared the winner at the end of Tuesday’s episode, while McKenzie took sixth place. However, her appearance on "The Voice" significantly elevated her public profile, allowing her to display her talent to millions of viewers across the nation. She became a favorite among all four coaches—Buble, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg—and received praise for every performance she delivered.

During the finale, Buble expressed pride in McKenzie’s performances, and Snoop Dogg was visibly moved during her powerful rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s "drivers license," calling it “amazing.” In a recent interview, McKenzie emphasized that simply appearing on "The Voice" this season and making it to the finale was a significant victory for her.

“I feel like a champion, just with the opportunity itself, to make it this far,” she said. Born in Birmingham and currently living in Huntsville, McKenzie performs at venues throughout the state and works a day job for AT&T.

Finalists and Results

Aiden Ross, a singer from Texas, outperformed five other finalists on Tuesday:

  • Ralph Edwards, from California, on Team Snoop, placed second.
  • Dek of Hearts, a trio based in Nashville, on Team Niall, placed third.
  • Aubrey Nicole, from Pennsylvania, on Team Reba, placed fourth.
  • Max Chambers, from Louisiana, on Team Buble, placed fifth.
  • Jazz McKenzie, from Alabama, on Team Buble, placed sixth.

Chambers and Dek of Hearts were wildcard picks, voted into the finale by viewer votes. Another singer from Alabama, Kirbi, was eligible for a wildcard spot but didn’t receive enough votes to become a finalist.

As the winner of "The Voice," Ross will receive a recording contract, according to an NBC press release, along with the season title.

Alabama's History on "The Voice"

Alabama has produced one winner on "The Voice" during the show’s 14-year history: Asher Havon, a soul singer from Selma, who took the crown in 2024 during Season 25 on Team Reba.

Four singers from Alabama have competed in "The Voice" finals in previous seasons, finishing in third or fourth place. Here are some notable mentions:

  • D. Smooth, an R&B singer from Birmingham, took third place during Season 23 in 2023.
  • Dexter Roberts, a country singer from Fayette, was the third-place finisher during Season 16 in 2019.
  • Kirk Jay, a soulful country crooner from Bay Minette, took third place on Season 15 in 2018.
  • Red Marlow, a country singer from Rogersville, was the fourth-place finisher on Season 13 in 2017.

Gratitude and Reflections

As the Season 28 finale approached, McKenzie paid tribute to her home state and expressed gratitude to fans for their support.

“I want to thank Alabama for pushing me, for praying for me, for supporting me, for being in the comments (on social media), defending me, all of those things,” she told DISCOVERTREND. “I appreciate it. I see it all. I can’t respond to it all, but I do see it, and I’m very appreciative. And I am so proud to be from the great state of Alabama. I will always honor that and do my best, to continue to make you proud.”

McKenzie also saluted her coach during Tuesday’s episode.

“Thank you for everything,” McKenzie told Buble. “Thank you for your heart. Thank you for the fun that we have. Thank you for believing in me, most of all. And I love you so much.”
