Former Dodgers Star Inducted into Hall of Fame

A Legacy Beyond the Dodgers
Paul Konerko and Dusty Baker are two names that have left an indelible mark on Major League Baseball (MLB), though their careers were not centered around the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both players spent significant portions of their professional lives with teams other than the Dodgers, yet they will soon be reunited in a unique way. In 2026, they will be inducted into the Cactus League Hall of Fame, joining three others in the latest class of honorees.
The Cactus League Hall of Fame celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to spring training in Arizona. From players on the field to those working behind the scenes, the honor recognizes those who have helped shape the annual exhibition season. Bridget Binsbacher, the Executive Director of the Cactus League, expressed her excitement about the upcoming induction class, stating, “The Cactus League Hall of Fame honors those who made outstanding contributions to spring training in Arizona. Some contributed on the field, others behind the scenes. All deserve to be recognized.”
Paul Konerko: From Dodgers to the White Sox
Konerko was originally selected by the Dodgers in the first round of the 1994 MLB Draft as the 13th overall pick. He made his major league debut in Los Angeles in 1997, playing 55 games for the team over two seasons. At just 22 years old, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in a deal that brought closer Jeff Shaw to the Dodgers.
Despite his early departure from the organization, Konerko went on to have a legendary career with the Chicago White Sox. Over the course of his 18-year MLB career, he amassed 439 home runs, 1,412 RBIs, and a .279 batting average. He was named the American League Championship Series MVP in 2005 and played a key role in the White Sox's World Series victory that year.
Konerko’s connection to the Cactus League is also notable. He graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was named the 1994 Arizona High School Player of the Year. This local ties further strengthen his legacy within the region.
Dusty Baker: A Career of Leadership
Dusty Baker’s time with the Dodgers spanned from 1976 to 1983. As an outfielder, he was a key member of the team during a successful era, helping the Dodgers reach the National League Championship Series in four of his seven seasons. He was also part of the 1981 World Series championship team.
During his playing career, Baker earned two All-Star selections and two Silver Slugger Awards—both of which came while he was with the Dodgers. However, it was as a manager that he truly made his mark. Baker led several teams, including the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros. He retired after leading the Astros to a World Series title in 2022.
The Cactus League Hall of Fame: Honoring Baseball’s Spring Tradition
Established in 2014, the Cactus League Hall of Fame has honored a wide range of individuals who have contributed to spring training in Arizona. Notable inductees include former Dodgers players such as Frank Robinson, Vin Scully, and Rick Monday. The Hall of Fame’s physical exhibit is located in Mesa, Arizona, serving as a tribute to the history and significance of spring training in the region.
Konerko and Baker’s induction into the Cactus League Hall of Fame is a testament to their lasting impact on baseball, both on and off the field. While their careers took them far from the Dodgers, their legacies remain deeply rooted in the sport and the communities they helped shape.
