Dick Van Dyke, 100, Struggles to Sleep Amid Wife's Stalker and Friend's Murder

Dick Van Dyke's wife, Arlene Silver, recently opened up about the emotional challenges she and her husband have faced. These include dealing with a persistent stalker and coping with the loss of a close friend.

On Wednesday, December 17, Arlene shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, detailing her difficult month. In the post, the 54-year-old makeup artist spoke about a stalker who had been following her, particularly when she attended yoga classes.

Arlene explained that this situation has added to the stress she and her husband are already experiencing. She also mentioned that Dick has been struggling with sleep since the passing of their close friend, director Rob Reiner. On Sunday, December 14, Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, 68, were found dead at their Brentwood home. The cause of death was confirmed as "multiple sharp force injuries."

The couple's tragic deaths have left many in shock, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have reportedly sought support after feeling abandoned by Hollywood. Additionally, Meghan Markle faced public criticism from a fellow TV star.

In her Instagram post, Arlene shared her concerns about the stalker, stating, "There's someone kind of stalking me around Malibu. And I don't feel comfortable going out, on top of everything else." She continued, "I go to yoga for my mental health and just to move my body, and there's some guy, just, you know, he's been hanging around all the Dick Van Dyke stuff, and I said something to him yesterday, and hopefully... It's hard to explain, but I don't want to give him any attention."

Expressing frustration, Arlene added, "It sucks, but that's the one hour that I leave to do something for myself. So, hopefully, he will go away, or else I'm gonna have to have a bodyguard escort me to my yoga class. Like, really?"

She mentioned that she has been dealing with the stalker for a "couple of months" and that her husband offered to accompany her to the yoga studio. However, she declined, fearing that it might be what the stalker wanted. Arlene plans to handle the situation herself, even if it means hiring a bodyguard.

After discussing the stalker, Arlene turned her attention to the grief she and Dick are experiencing. She explained that the timing of these events is particularly difficult, as they are still mourning the loss of Rob Reiner.

Arlene shared, "We talked to Rob two weeks ago on the phone. And Michele, I have so many messages from Dick's birthday, it's going to take me weeks to get over them, and Michele and Rob's are in those messages." She reflected on her relationship with Rob, saying, "And I've always been a fan of his work before I knew him. And then Rob and Carl [Reiner] were the first people I ever met with Dick. Rob and Michele were always together, like Dick and I. And I always felt part of the Reiner family, they always treated me like part of their family. And this is just like... unbelievable."

Under the post, Arlene received an overwhelming amount of love and support from her followers. One person wrote, "I am so sorry for your loss. I thought of you both immediately. such a tragedy. I'm speechless." Another commented, "I am so devastated too. You are such a beautiful person with a beautiful heart and soul. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. They were beautiful people." A third message read, "Did Dick hear about Rob? It has to be a shock to you and him. It was to all of us when I woke up this morning it was the first thing I heard on the news. Just take one day at a time. That's all you can do."
