Career & Tech Director Named National Award Winner in Beaumont ISD

A Legacy of Excellence in Career and Technical Education

Beaumont Independent School District (BISD) has reason to celebrate after its long-time staff member, Donna Prudhomme, was honored with the prestigious Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) National Administrator of the Year award. The recognition was announced last week and presented in Nashville, Tennessee, placing Prudhomme among an elite group of CTE leaders who have made significant contributions to the field through innovation and impactful leadership.

Prudhomme’s accomplishments have not gone unnoticed at both the local and state levels. Earlier this year, she was named the 2024 Career & Technology Association of Texas State Administrator of the Year and the ACTE Region IV Administrator of the Year. Her national recognition is a testament to her dedication and the transformative work she has done within BISD.

The competition for the national award was fierce, with hundreds of candidates from across the country. Five finalists were selected, representing states such as Texas, Michigan, Alabama, and Arizona. Prudhomme's selection highlights her exceptional ability to drive progress and create meaningful opportunities for students and educators alike.

Expanding Opportunities Through Innovation

With nearly 25 years of service to Beaumont ISD, Prudhomme took on the role of Director of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center in 2018. Since then, she has focused on expanding the center’s programs, enhancing student and teacher support, and introducing new technical opportunities to future generations of students.

One of her early initiatives involved revamping the branding of the CTE Center. This included the creation of the Beaumont ISD CTE Choice Awards, a “red carpet” style event that attracted over 1,000 attendees, and the CTE K-8 Roadshow, which brings hands-on career exploration to elementary and middle school students.

These efforts have led to a significant expansion of opportunities for students and teachers across various fields, including graphic design, engineering, culinary arts, and cosmetology. As a result, Beaumont ISD’s CTE programs have gained recognition as a standout model both regionally and statewide.

Measurable Success and National Recognition

Prudhomme’s impact is reflected in measurable outcomes. During the 2024-25 accountability cycle, Beaumont ISD’s CTE industry-based certification rate for College, Career, and Military Readiness reached 34.9 percent, nearly matching the Texas average of 35 percent. Additionally, BISD students exceeded the state average in Level I and Level II college certificate attainment, achieving 8.1 percent compared to the state’s 1.1 percent.

These results played a key role in her selection for the national award. Prudhomme credits the scale and sustainability of her impact, along with her ability to balance innovation with accountability, as factors in her recognition. She also emphasized the strength of the community, industry, and postsecondary partnerships she has built.

Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future

While the national award is a significant achievement, Prudhomme’s work continues. She remains committed to fostering growth and community integration to enhance opportunities and career readiness for students. This ongoing effort aligns with the evolving needs of technology and the workforce.

“My vision for CTE is for it to remain a premier pathway within public education — one that continues to provide earlier exposure and stronger transitions from education to careers or continued training, ensuring students graduate with purpose, options, and opportunity,” Prudhomme said.

Her dedication to excellence and innovation ensures that Beaumont ISD’s CTE programs will continue to thrive and make a lasting impact on students and the broader community.
