Two Republicans Stand by Trump After Reiner's Controversial Comments

While a significant number of Republicans have spoken out against President Donald Trump for his remarks regarding the passing of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, there are still individuals who have chosen to support him and attempt to justify his comments.
Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele, 68, were discovered deceased in their Los Angeles residence on Sunday, December 14, with their son, Nick, 32, having been arrested in connection with their deaths. Following the news, Trump took to Truth Social to express his thoughts on the case, stating that Reiner died from "Trump Derangement Syndrome," a statement that has faced widespread criticism, including from some Fox News hosts and various Republican figures.

Despite the backlash, some individuals have still come forward to defend the President, with comments that either criticized Reiner or supported Trump’s stance. Among these defenders were two other conservative figures: Laura Loomer and Greg Gutfeld.

What did Trump say about Rob Reiner?
In the wake of Reiner's death, Trump took to Truth Social to make a peculiar statement that linked the Hollywood icon's political views to his demise. He wrote, "A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, something referred to as TDS."
He continued, "He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia, reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before." Finally, he concluded, "May Rob and Michele rest in peace!"

Greg Gutfeld admits he doesn't agree with Trump's words - but excuses them
On the December 15 episode of The Five, Greg Gutfeld, 61, appeared to defend the President's comments about Reiner, acknowledging that he didn't agree with them but emphasizing that he prioritizes the President's actions over his words. Gutfeld stated, "I think the thing is, you don't have to like the things he says all the time. It is why, in my filter, Trump is always 'words' versus 'deeds.' I don't have to like what he says. In fact, I can hate what he says. But I can also think in his brain, he is going, 'This guy compared me to Hitler. He put a target on my back. I don't like him.'"
"If it were me, I would go, like, 'I'm sorry he's dead.' But he can't let that go. We don't have to like it," he added. "I just look at the deeds."

Laura Loomer doubles down on Trump Derangement Syndrome critique
In her own social media post, conservative activist Laura Loomer, 32, seemed to align with Trump's perspective, suggesting that Reiner suffered from "psychosis" due to his "level of TDS" that "exuded a level of craziness around those he spent time with."
She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Many people who have crazy kids have psychiatric issues themselves. You'll notice a lot of celebrities with kids have addiction, trans kids, gay kids, spoiled kids, kids who commit crimes, and kids who are total dead beat losers because many were raised to have no accountability by parents who subscribe to hardcore liberalism."
"Trump is right," she continued. "Reiner himself sounded insane when he would speak. Imagine how crazy his own kid was...on drugs. We have a mental health crisis in America."
