Susie Wiles' Shocking Vanity Fair Comments on Trump Era

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has responded strongly to a recent article published in Vanity Fair, which she describes as a "hit piece" that misrepresents the first year of the second Trump administration. In a post on X, Wiles criticized the publication for what she claims is a misleading portrayal of her and the White House team.

"The article published early this morning is a disingenuously framed hit piece on me and the finest President, White House staff, and Cabinet in history," Wiles wrote. "Significant context was disregarded and much of what I, and others, said about the team and the president was left out of the story. I assume, after reading it, that this was done to paint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the president and our team."

The article from Vanity Fair reportedly includes several critical remarks from Wiles about key figures in the administration. These include Vice President JD Vance, Elon Musk, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Project 2025 architect Russell Vought, and even President Donald Trump himself.

  • Wiles described the president as having "an alcoholic's personality."
  • She also referred to Trump as "narcissistic" following his controversial comments about Rob Reiner's death.
  • Wiles called Vance a calculating "conspiracy theorist."

Wiles claims many of her statements were taken out of context, but the article has sparked significant discussion within the White House. The controversy even led to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt leaving the press briefing during a question about the piece. As the first woman to hold her position, Wiles rarely speaks publicly, making her candid remarks particularly notable.

Her comments have raised questions about whether she might be leaving her role. However, Trump has expressed confidence in her, telling the New York Post that he hadn't read the article but still considers her "fantastic."

Trump also acknowledged that he may have an "alcoholic's personality," describing himself as having "a very possessive personality." He told the New York Post that he wasn't offended by Wiles' remarks, including her reference to him as someone with "an alcoholic’s personality," which she recognized from her father, the famous sports broadcaster Pat Summerall.

In the article, Wiles discussed her role in managing Trump's energy, whims, and political goals. She mentioned that part of her job involves handling his desire for retribution against political enemies. Wiles also admitted that some of Trump's policies, such as his mass deportation program, had unintended consequences.

She noted that the president's retribution campaign has gone further than she initially expected. Her comments came after she attempted to explain why Trump appears to fall asleep during cabinet meetings.

Wiles stated, "He’s not asleep. He’s got his eyes closed, and his head leaned back… and, you know, he’s fine." Despite this, insiders say the White House staff and Trump’s administration are quietly concerned about his tendency to doze off.

Trump biographer Michael Wolff claimed that the president's recurring episodes of falling asleep at meetings and events have caused concern among aides. "I never remember Trump falling asleep, it used to be got bored and then would walk out," Wolff told the Daily Beast’s podcast.

"You can't wake him up because the cameras are rolling," Wolff added. "Everyone is in a low-level panic all the time about Trump falling asleep."
