Mick Foley Ends WWE Ties, Calls Trump's Reiner Remarks 'Final Straw'

Mick Foley Breaks Ties with WWE Over Trump Administration Relations

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has announced that he is severing his connection with the professional wrestling organization, citing its close ties to the Trump administration. This decision comes after a long-standing disagreement with President Donald Trump's policies and public statements.

Foley, known for his critical stance towards Trump, stated that the president's comments regarding the death of acclaimed actor and director Rob Reiner were the final trigger for his decision. In an Instagram post, he expressed his disappointment with WWE's relationship with Trump, particularly in light of the administration's treatment of immigrants.

"I have been concerned about WWE's close relationship with Donald Trump for several months," Foley wrote. "Especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who 'looks like an immigrant'). Reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me."

He continued, "I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy."

Foley informed WWE talent relations on Monday night that he would not be making any appearances for the company while Trump remains in office. He also mentioned that he would not re-sign his Legends deal when it expires in June.

"I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me," he said. "But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, 'I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.'"

The Hill reached out to WWE for comment on the matter.

Foley, 60, retired in 2012 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the following year. His decision to cut ties with WWE highlights the growing tensions between the entertainment industry and political figures, especially those with controversial stances.

Trump has maintained a close relationship with WWE, which dates back to his appearances on the show during his days as a reality television star in the early 2000s. The president has also appointed former WWE CEO Linda McMahon to serve as secretary of Education. She led the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term. Trump hosted WWE executives, including the secretary’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon, as recently as September.

Trump's Controversial Comments on Rob Reiner

Trump faced backlash for suggesting that Rob Reiner, a prolific Democratic donor and advocate for progressive causes, died because of his disdain for the president — what Trump has termed “Trump derangement syndrome.”

“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” Trump wrote Monday morning on Truth Social.

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before,” he continued. “May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

The president doubled down on his remarks when a reporter asked later about the criticism from some Republicans. “I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned,” Trump told reporters, before saying Reiner was part of “the Russia hoax” — referring to the 2016 Russian election interference case.

“I think he hurt himself, career-wise. He became a deranged person. Trump derangement syndrome,” the president said. “So, I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”
