Mariah Carey's Controversial Nicki Minaj Remarks Resurface Amid MAGA Backlash

Mariah Carey's controversial remarks directed at Nicki Minaj have come back into the spotlight as the rapper has been labeled "MAGA" following her recent praise for former President Donald Trump. This has sparked a wave of online reactions, especially after Nicki shared a post on X that celebrated Trump and mocked former Vice President Kamala Harris. In the message, the 43-year-old artist wrote, "Flattering photos are allowed to be posted of me again. Thanks, POTUS. Epiphany had politicians thinking she would lead them to a victory. Had live nation thinking she knew her sh*t. lol. How much money did VP Harris have stacked up for her campaign, again? Yikes."
As this post continues to generate backlash, fans have begun revisiting Nicki's long-standing conflict with Mariah, suggesting that the pop star always sensed something was off about the rapper. This comes alongside another controversy involving actress Sydney Sweeney, who has also been branded as MAGA after it was revealed that she is a registered Republican.
The Origins of the Feud
The 12-year-long rivalry between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj began during their time co-judging on American Idol. Their relationship was marked by intense on-set arguments and even threats. One of the most infamous incidents occurred in 2012-2013 when reports surfaced that Minaj allegedly threatened to shoot Carey. This comment, reportedly made off-camera but overheard by others, led to heightened tensions.
According to accounts, Minaj said, "If I had a gun, I would shoot that f-----g b----" before leaving the set. While the rapper has since denied making such a statement, Carey reportedly increased her security and felt unsafe at the time.

The following day, Minaj took to Twitter with a message that read, “All I do is compliment u. That’s not enuff? Ur a legend, cheer up. U don’t have to run down ur resume or feel intimidated. Shady McGrady…”
Some sources suggest that Carey had been targeting Minaj ever since she joined the American Idol team. An insider told People, "Mariah has been saying little things to jab at Nicki from day one of shooting. Mariah doesn’t think Nicki can sing and doesn’t think she should be judging folks. Nicki has been taking all of the jabs, but on this particular day she lost it."
A Recent Interview Reignites the Debate
In a recent sit-down interview with Andy Cohen, which has gained traction on social media, the host asked Carey to name three things she likes about Minaj. Instead of answering, Carey refused and turned the question back to Cohen.
When briefly addressing their feud, Carey stated, "You know I always felt it was more important with that situation to not plead the fifth, but to just stay above the fray because you don't want to be declasse. You just want to just move it along."
As this clip resurfaces, some fans are rallying behind Mariah, with one user writing, "Mariah Carey was ahead of her time for this; she always knew there was something off with Nicki Minaj." Another fan added, "She clocked her swiftly." Someone else wrote, "She gave Nicki a career to be honest." Meanwhile, another person questioned, "Who beefs with Mariah Carey???"
