Chris Perez Honors Late Father-in-Law, Calling Him "A Force of Nature"
Tribute to a Legacy
Chris Perez, the widower of the late Selena, has shared heartfelt words in memory of his late father-in-law, Abraham Quintanilla. The 86-year-old passed away on Saturday, December 13, though the family has not disclosed the cause of death.

Perez, now 56, honored Abraham in a touching Instagram post that captured the essence of their relationship. He described Abraham as "a force of nature," emphasizing his strength, decisiveness, and the unique blend of tough love and nurturing that defined him.
"Thank you Abraham for everything. I will always love and miss you," he concluded.

The Quintanilla family also released a statement expressing their gratitude for the support they have received during this difficult time. They described Abraham as a devoted family man whose life was characterized by faith, discipline, and steadfast love. The family emphasized his role in shaping the careers of his children and preserving Selena's legacy with care and respect.
A Complex Relationship
Perez joined Selena y Los Dinos in the early 90s as the band’s guitarist. His relationship with the music star evolved from professional to romantic, despite initial resistance from Abraham. After their romance was discovered, Selena and Chris eloped in April 1992. Their marriage lasted until Selena's tragic death in March 1995, when she was fatally shot by her former fan club president, Yolanda SaldÃvar.
The relationship between Perez and Abraham was not without its challenges. In 2016, Abraham sued Perez over a proposed television deal based on Perez's memoir, To Selena, With Love, claiming it violated an agreement signed after Selena's death. The agreement gave Quintanilla control over her image and likeness.

Perez countersued, alleging that he was taken advantage of during a vulnerable period while grieving Selena's death. The legal battle continued for several years until September 2021, when a civil district court judge in Nueces County dismissed the case with prejudice. Later that month, Perez announced that the dispute had been amicably resolved.
A Lasting Impact
Abraham is survived by his wife Marcella and their two children, Suzette and A.B. His influence on the music industry and the lives of those around him remains profound. The legacy of Selena continues to be celebrated through various tributes and memorabilia, including vinyl editions of her most beloved albums.
