Chris Hemsworth Opens Up About 15-Year Marriage Struggles

Chris Hemsworth opened up about his 15-year marriage to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, sharing that the couple has gone through some challenging moments but emerged stronger. The two met through his talent agent in 2010 and quickly married in an intimate ceremony in Australia. They welcomed their daughter, India, in 2012, and their twin sons, Sasha and Tristan, two years later.

During a recent appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, the 42-year-old actor discussed the secret to their successful relationship. He emphasized the importance of spending quality time together and having fun.

"Both of us have an adventurous spirit and make time for each other," he said. "I think the complicated times have been when it's all work, all kids, and the 'us' in the relationship disappears."

Hemsworth explained that when life becomes overwhelming with work and family responsibilities, it's easy to lose sight of the partnership between them. He noted that they intentionally set aside time for just the two of them, creating space for each other rather than letting the outside world consume their relationship.

"We have no excuse for not making time for each other, given the support we have from our situation," he added. He also highlighted the importance of staying curious about each other, which helps maintain the connection.

"There's always that spark and attraction, but at the end of the day, it's about friendship and companionship," he said. "The moment you run out of things to talk about, you lose that curiosity and interest in one another. That’s when it becomes concerning."

Elsa Pataky echoed similar sentiments when she spoke to media earlier this year. She emphasized that marriage requires constant effort and growth, especially during tough times.

"Marriage needs constant work, and you learn a lot from the rough patches," she said. "You have to keep growing together and ensure your paths continue to cross."

She also stressed the importance of finding joy in small moments and remaining curious about each other. "You have to be ready to adapt, and because there are situations that separate you, you need to know how to find each other again."

Pataky mentioned that Hemsworth is always able to bring laughter into even the most tense moments between them. The couple tries to avoid being apart for more than two weeks, though this has become more difficult as their children approach their teenage years.

The family lives in Byron Bay, Australia, where they enjoy an adventurous lifestyle. They often go camping, hiking, surfing, and horseback riding near their $13 million home. The property features a state-of-the-art gym, an infinity pool, and a media room. Their active and close-knit family life reflects the values they’ve built over the years—curiosity, companionship, and a shared love for adventure.
