LSU Tigers Prepare for Key SEC Matchup Against Ole Miss Rebels
The LSU Tigers, currently sitting at 4-0 with a 1-0 record in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), are set to face a tough challenge in Week 5 as they travel to Oxford to take on Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels. This upcoming game is expected to be a Top-15 matchup and will test the Tigers’ strength as they continue their unbeaten season.
LSU showcased their dominance in their most recent game, defeating the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 56-10 in a high-scoring performance at Death Valley. The victory kept the Tigers undefeated and highlighted their offensive firepower, particularly from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier completed 25 of 31 passes, accumulating nearly 300 total yards and throwing for four touchdowns. His performance was praised by head coach Brian Kelly, who noted the increased efficiency and comfort he displayed on the field.
“You look at the efficiency with which he threw the football, targeting the football, seeing the field. It's still, whether they're a step behind or not, it's still recognition and feeling comfortable out there,” Kelly said. “You could see there was a higher level of comfort in terms of him throwing. Then certainly running the football as well. It requires the technical development we hadn’t seen and now that he's healthy, he's able to do a lot more.”
In addition to Nussmeier’s strong performance, running back Ju’Juan Johnson had a standout game, scoring two touchdowns and playing a key role in the Tigers' rushing attack. Johnson credited the team’s focus on preparation for the success they saw against Southeastern Louisiana.
“Tonight, I think we focused on preparation,” Johnson said. “Just going through it at practice and just keeping on working at it. It was a big step for us - I think - on the offensive side of the ball.”
With the win, LSU remains ranked fourth in the latest AP Top-25 Poll, setting the stage for an exciting showdown against the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels, ranked 13th, are coming off a strong season and are expected to provide a challenging opponent for the Tigers.
