The Return of Camp Rock

It’s time to dust off your keyboard and prepare for some vocal warmups. The third installment of the beloved Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, Camp Rock 3, is officially in production. The Jonas Brothers have confirmed their return to reprise their original roles, bringing back the magic of the first film.

Disney Branded Television announced on September 17 that filming has already begun. While a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet, the movie is expected to stream on Disney+ and also air on Disney Channel. Fans of the original series are already buzzing with excitement over what this new chapter might bring.

A Musical Legacy

The original Camp Rock was a hit that combined music, drama, and comedy. It followed the story of Mitchie Torres, portrayed by Demi Lovato, who gets the chance to attend the famous Camp Rock after her mother accepts a job as the camp’s caterer. Mitchie is thrilled to prove herself as a performer but hides the truth about her mom's role out of embarrassment. Meanwhile, Shane Gray, played by Joe Jonas, is sent to the camp to improve his attitude and rediscover his passion for music. He finds inspiration when he hears Mitchie’s voice and becomes obsessed with singing with her. Their journey leads to self-discovery and the importance of staying true to oneself.

In Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, the characters return to Camp Rock to face a new challenge from the rival camp, Camp Star. This high-stakes competition brings together the cast for another round of musical drama and friendship trials.

What to Expect in Camp Rock 3

The third film promises more musical drama and new challenges. Directed by Veronica Rodriguez, known for The Slumber Party, and written by Eydie Faye, the movie follows Connect 3 as they return to Camp Rock to search for new talent for their tour’s opening act. As the competition heats up, friendships are tested, romances spark, and unexpected rockstars come together.

Who Will Be in the Cast?

Joe Jonas will once again play Shane Gray, while Nick and Kevin Jonas will reprise their roles as Nate and Jason Gray, members of the band Connect 3. Maria Canals-Barrera, who played Mitchie’s mother in the original film, will also return. She previously starred in The Wizards of Waverly Place alongside Selena Gomez.

New faces joining the cast include Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, Brooklynn Pitts, Ava Jean, and Sherry Cola, who stars in Nobody Wants This. The cast adds fresh energy to the returning characters, ensuring a mix of nostalgia and new storytelling.

Will Demi Lovato Return?

Demi Lovato is not listed as part of the main cast for Camp Rock 3, but she will serve as an executive producer alongside the Jonas Brothers. In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Another one but make it camp!! Good luck to this next class of campers.” Lovato and the Jonas Brothers recently reunited for a Camp Rock-inspired performance during the Jonas20 anniversary tour, where they performed songs from both films.

Behind the Scenes

Joe Jonas had previously expressed interest in a Camp Rock sequel in a 2017 interview with Marie Claire, suggesting a darker, more mature take on the franchise. He mentioned the idea of focusing on "graduating days" and creating an R-rated film, though the direction of Camp Rock 3 remains to be seen.

The Jonas Brothers also accidentally teased the return of the franchise on their Hot Ones episode in August. During the show, Joe read a note from his Notes app that said, “Read Camp Rock 3.” After some nervous laughter, he added, “Sorry, Disney.”

With the return of familiar faces and the promise of new stories, Camp Rock 3 is set to be a nostalgic yet exciting addition to the franchise. Fans can’t wait to see what comes next.
