A Violent Attack in Mesa Leaves Family Injured and Suspect in Custody

A shocking incident occurred early Wednesday morning in Mesa, Arizona, when a man allegedly broke into an apartment and stabbed a mother and her two daughters. The attack, described by authorities as a random act of violence, has left the victims with serious injuries, while the suspect is now in custody.

According to court records, 22-year-old Lowell Tucker Dorn faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of attempted murder and residential burglary. The incident took place at an apartment complex near Dobson and Broadway roads, where Dorn reportedly entered an apartment through an unlocked door just before 5 a.m.

Once inside, Dorn attacked a 16-year-old girl, stabbing her multiple times. The girl’s mother tried to intervene, using a hammer to confront Dorn. However, he continued his assault, stabbing both the mother and her 18-year-old daughter. During the struggle, Dorn struck the mother in the face with an unknown blunt object and an Xbox game system, causing severe facial fractures.

One of the daughters managed to escape to a friend’s house and called for help. After the attack, Dorn fled the scene. Surveillance footage later showed him entering the apartment’s laundry room, removing his shirt, and then heading to a business complex about a quarter-mile away. There, a witness saw him wandering without a shirt.

Dorn was eventually located by Tempe police after officers received a call about a man attempting to break into parked cars and a home near McClintock Drive and Apache Boulevard. He was found approximately three miles from the original crime scene. Court documents revealed that Dorn had dried blood on his shorts and cuts on his right hand.

During an interview with police, Dorn admitted to stabbing the victims “with intent to kill.” He also disclosed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, and depression but had not taken his medication for four months. Additionally, Dorn mentioned that he recently used marijuana laced with a drug known as “Dust,” which is another name for Phencyclidine (PCP), an illegal street drug.

Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the attack, noting that the victims would have likely died if they hadn’t fought back and sought medical attention. One of the teen victims sustained serious injuries to her neck, but all three are expected to recover.

The judge overseeing the case described the incident as a “random, ferocious attack on vulnerable people in the middle of the night with stated intent to murder them, for no specific reason at all.” This statement highlighted the danger posed by Dorn, leading to a cash-only bond of $2 million. If the bond is posted, Dorn would be placed on house arrest.

A verified GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist the affected family with their recovery and medical expenses. The case continues to unfold as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and the mental health issues that may have contributed to the violent act.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the unpredictable nature of violence and the importance of community vigilance and support for victims. As the legal process moves forward, the community remains hopeful for the full recovery of the injured and the pursuit of justice.
