Why Channing Tatum Won't Be Cool to His Daughter Everly

Channing Tatum's Daughter Remains Unimpressed by His Career
Channing Tatum, known for his roles in films like Magic Mike, has shared some candid thoughts about how his daughter, Everly Tatum, perceives his acting career. At the world premiere of his new movie Roofman at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the actor revealed that despite having seen many of his movies, his 12-year-old daughter doesn’t seem to be impressed.
“She has seen tons of them,” Tatum told E! News’ Francesca Amiker during the event. “She’s like, ‘Whatever, I don’t wanna see those.’ She acts like she doesn’t care.” He added with a laugh, “I’m never gonna be cool to her.”
While Everly may not show much enthusiasm for her father’s films, she has made an appearance on the set of Roofman. Tatum emphasized that although she hasn’t yet watched his portrayal of real-life criminal Jeffrey Manchester, she definitely plans to see the film.
A Role Rooted in Isolation
Tatum’s performance in Roofman required him to tap into deep emotions, particularly feelings of isolation. The film follows the story of Jeffrey Manchester, who became infamous for robbing fast food restaurants from their rooftops. After escaping prison, he spent six months hiding in a toy store, a situation that Tatum imagined as a form of self-imposed isolation.
“This whole movie, I’m in every frame of it and I don’t get a lot of time with people,” Tatum explained. “So a lot of the movie, I’m by myself. You don’t have your fellow actors there, and then there are days that they show up and you’re like, ‘Oh hi!’ I get to be in a scene with someone and I’m not just on an island by myself.”
He continued, “I can imagine that’s a version of what he was feeling. Just the isolation, and prison is the worst isolation. He put himself in a different prison in a toy store, but he’s doing the best he could with the best he had.”
Mental Health Struggles During Filming
Beyond the emotional challenges of the role, Tatum also opened up about the physical toll the film took on him. He detailed how his mental health suffered after losing a significant amount of weight for the part.
“I had only planned to get down to 185,” he told Variety earlier this month. “And then, just once, I was already going, and just the days of shooting, it kept coming off, and I got down to like 172.”
It wasn’t until assistant director Mariela Comitini voiced her concern on set that Tatum realized something was wrong.
“I was like, ‘I think you’re right. This is weird,’” he said. “It was a sort of emptiness and a sadness to it. I would just see myself, and I would seem hollow. And the movie, a lot for me, was a lot on loneliness, and a real meditation for that wanting to be full and trying to fill an empty vessel.”
He added, “That empty feelings sucks after a little while.”
