Top Performers from the Week

After four weeks of Indiana high school boys soccer competition, several standout athletes have made their mark. This season, a local publication has been recognizing top performers through its Player of the Week polls. One of the most recent honorees is Evan Mitchell from Triton, who was voted Player of the Week for the period of September 8-13. The sophomore midfielder delivered an impressive performance with six goals and three assists during that week.

Voting for the next round, Matchweek 5 (September 15-20), will open on Monday and close on Friday. Here are some of the top performers from the previous week:

Angel Gonzalez, Purdue Poly

As a sophomore forward, Angel Gonzalez played a crucial role in Purdue Poly’s victories. He provided an assist in the Techies’ 3-2 win against Washington on September 9. Two days later, he scored a hat trick in the team's 3-1 victory over Christel. His contributions helped the Techies achieve a 2-1 record for the week.

Matthew Lathrop, Hamilton Southeastern

The junior defender was instrumental in leading Hamilton Southeastern to two shutouts last week. The Royals managed to allow only five shots in two games. They drew 0-0 with Fishers on September 9 and defeated Oak Hill 3-0 on September 13.

Mason Stephens, Covenant Christian

A freshman midfielder, Mason Stephens had a significant impact on Covenant Christian’s success. He provided an assist in a 2-2 draw with Park Tudor and added a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Heritage Christian. On September 13, he scored two goals and recorded an assist in a 4-0 victory against Danville. The Warriors remain at the top of the updated Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Class A poll.

Evan Mitchell, Triton

Evan Mitchell continued his strong performance, scoring six goals and providing three assists last week. He started Matchweek 4 with a goal and an assist in Triton’s 6-0 win over Rushville. Despite consecutive 4-3 losses on September 10 and 11, Mitchell managed to score a goal in each game. He closed the week with a hat trick and two assists in the Tigers’ 7-2 win over Milan.

Mack Keefer, Westfield

The junior goalkeeper, Mack Keefer, played a key role in Westfield’s 2-0 away victory over Noblesville on September 9. He made 11 saves and saved a penalty late in the second half to secure the shutout. Westfield also defeated Pendleton 5-3 on September 13, giving them a perfect 2-0 record for the week.

Arian Reyes, Brownsburg

As a junior defender, Arian Reyes contributed two goals in Brownsburg’s 6-0 victory over Avon on September 9. He also led the backline and helped the Bulldogs secure a shutout. Thanks to his efforts, Brownsburg climbed to the No. 2 spot in the updated ISCA Class 3A poll.

Adrian Romo, Scecina

The junior forward, Adrian Romo, had a remarkable week. He scored a hat trick in Scecina’s 8-0 win over Lutheran on September 11. He followed this with another hat trick in the Crusaders’ 9-2 victory at New Castle on September 13.
