Tulsa King Renewed for Season 4 as Terence Winter Returns and Dave Erickson Exits

Season 4 Renewal for Tulsa King Confirmed
Paramount+ has officially announced the renewal of Tulsa King, the popular crime drama created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Sylvester Stallone, for a fourth season. This news was revealed on the night of the Season 3 red carpet event in New York, just ahead of the show’s debut on Paramount+ on Sunday, September 21. The decision comes as the series continues to gain momentum and maintain its strong viewership.
A notable change is taking place behind the scenes for Season 4, with Terence Winter returning as executive producer and head writer. Dave Erickson, who served as the showrunner for Season 3, has stepped down from that role. This shift marks a significant transition in the creative direction of the series.
Tulsa King, produced by Paramount TV Studios and 101 Studios, was initially set for a two-year renewal—covering Seasons 3 and 4—after Stallone signed a new deal in November to extend his involvement with the show for two more seasons. The renewal for Season 3 was announced in March, and the continuation for Season 4 was expected to follow shortly after.
According to insiders, this is not the end of the road for Tulsa King. Discussions are currently underway with Stallone to secure a new two-year contract. If the series maintains its strong ratings, it could potentially run for up to six seasons.
Terence Winter Returns to the Fold
Terence Winter, the creator of Boardwalk Empire, was the executive producer and showrunner for the first season of Tulsa King. After stepping down as showrunner following the first season, he returned in Season 2 as Head Writer and executive producer, focusing primarily on the writers’ room while Craig Zisk handled on-set showrunner duties.
Winter recently shared his thoughts on rejoining the project, stating, “We all got on the same page creatively.” His return signals a renewed focus on the show’s narrative and storytelling.
In Season 3, Tulsa King welcomed back a formal showrunner in the form of Dave Erickson, known for his work on Mayor of Kingstown. Erickson also recently stepped down as showrunner of the upcoming Tulsa King spinoff, NOLA King, which stars Samuel L. Jackson. He will now focus exclusively on Mayor of Kingstown.
NOLA King will be introduced within Tulsa King, with Jackson making a guest appearance in Season 3 before taking center stage in the spinoff series.
This marks a full-time return for Winter, who previously served as a consultant during Season 3. Like in Season 2, there is no separate showrunner for the series.
Strong Ratings and Critical Acclaim
Tulsa King has consistently performed well since its debut. Its second season achieved a record-breaking global premiere on Paramount+, drawing 21.1 million viewers for the opening episode. It was the #1 global Paramount+ original series in 2024 and ranked among the Top 10 original series across all SVODs in Q4.
Season 3 sees Dwight (played by Stallone) expanding his empire, but with increased risks and powerful adversaries. The Dunmires, a wealthy and ruthless family, pose a new threat, forcing Dwight to fight for everything he has built and protect his loved ones.
The cast includes Martin Starr, Jay Will, Annabella Sciorra, Neal McDonough, Robert Patrick, Beau Knapp, Bella Heathcote, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, Kevin Pollak, Vincent Piazza, Frank Grillo, Michael Beach, James Russo, Garrett Hedlund, and Dana Delany. Samuel L. Jackson will appear in Season 3 as Russell Lee Washington Jr., setting up his role as the star of NOLA King.
Production and Distribution Details
Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, Tulsa King Season 3 is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Sylvester Stallone, Dave Erickson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Jim McKay, Sheri Elwood, Ildy Modrovich, and Keith Cox. Erickson also serves as showrunner. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
As the show moves forward into Season 4, fans can expect continued high-stakes storytelling, compelling character development, and a strong commitment to quality production. With Winter at the helm and Stallone continuing to lead the cast, Tulsa King remains a standout in the world of streaming television.
