The Latest Trump Conspiracy: Blaming Obama for the Epstein Files

President Donald Trump has once again turned to a familiar tactic—blaming former President Barack Obama for issues that have nothing to do with him. This time, he’s attempting to shift attention away from the ongoing controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files, which have become a focal point of public interest and concern.

Trump, who has long struggled with his own legacy, is reportedly deeply anxious about the release of these files. To distract from this growing scrutiny, he has resorted to an old playbook: accusing Obama of “treason” and “trying to lead a coup.” These claims, however, are not only baseless but also demonstrate a clear pattern of behavior that many have come to expect from Trump.

A Distraction from the Real Issue

On July 23, Trump's director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, echoed these unfounded accusations during a White House news briefing. She claimed that Obama was involved in a “yearslong coup” and a “treasonous conspiracy” through U.S. intelligence agencies’ investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. This narrative is not only dishonest but also predictable, as it serves as a diversion from the real issue at hand—the need for transparency regarding the Epstein files.

The Epstein files are a significant concern because they involve a man who had close ties to Trump. Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender and longtime friend of Trump, died in jail while awaiting trial on charges related to sex trafficking. The public is demanding a full accounting of the government’s evidence against him, yet Trump continues to deflect blame onto Obama instead of addressing the matter head-on.

Why Trump Is So Obsessed with Obama

There is no denying that Trump has a deep-seated resentment toward Obama. This jealousy is evident in his constant attacks and conspiracies about the former president. Obama left office with a 59% approval rating, according to Gallup, while Trump’s approval rating at the end of his first term was a mere 34%. Additionally, Obama never lost a presidential race, unlike Trump, who lost the 2020 election.

Obama’s accomplishments include stabilizing the U.S. economy after the Great Recession, expanding healthcare access through the Affordable Care Act, and overseeing the killing of Osama bin Laden. In contrast, Trump refused to accept the results of the 2020 election, leading to the attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters.

A Weak Attempt at Misdirection

Rather than releasing the Epstein files, which 89% of Americans want the government to do, according to a recent CBS News poll, Trump directed Gabbard to release declassified intelligence documents related to the 2016 election investigation. These documents were cherry-picked and misleading, falsely suggesting a “treasonous conspiracy” involving Obama.

However, the intelligence community found no evidence that Russian actors hacked actual U.S. election infrastructure. Instead, they confirmed that Russia did attempt to influence the election by spreading misinformation and using troll farms. This distinction is crucial and has been widely accepted, even by Trump himself in 2018 when he stated, “I accept our intelligence community's conclusion that Russia's meddling in the 2016 election took place.”

A Laughterable Claim

The claims made by Trump and Gabbard are not only false but also laughable. Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called out the Republicans for blaming Obama when they have nothing substantive to offer. He rightly pointed out that Trump’s actions are a weak attempt at distraction.

An Obama spokesperson responded to the allegations, stating that the claims are “ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.” They emphasized that the findings of the 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report affirmed that Russia influenced the election but did not manipulate any votes.

The Bottom Line

Every mention of Obama makes Trump appear more worried about the Epstein files. While Obama has no reason to be concerned, Trump’s behavior clearly shows that he is. As the public continues to demand transparency, it’s time for Trump to stop his baseless accusations and address the real issues at hand.
