Trump Suggests Smell Rumors Might Be True, Melania Agrees

The Rumors Surrounding Donald Trump's Odor
Over the years, rumors have circulated about Donald Trump emitting a foul odor, with some suggesting that his wife, Melania Trump, is particularly affected by it. These claims gained traction after a viral video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) in December 2023. The video featured clips of Melania exiting an aircraft alongside her husband, often keeping a noticeable distance from him. A user accompanying the clip wrote, “Can you blame her? Imagine emerging from the stench of a long flight ... #TrumpSmellsLikeA**.” Another user added, “I bet Melania & Bannon were glad to get out of the plane into the 'fresh' air,” a phrase that later became associated with Trump himself.
A Presser That Accidentally Revealed More Than Intended
During a presser in September, Donald Trump unintentionally confirmed that his marriage to Melania had been affected by his smell. A reporter asked the president about a video circulating online that showed a bag being thrown out of a window in the White House. Trump responded by stating, “Actually, you can't open the windows, you know why? They're all heavily armored and bulletproof.” In an effort to support his claim, he revealed more about his personal life than he intended. “In fact, my wife was complaining about it the other day. She said, 'Love to have a little fresh air come in,' but you can't. They're bulletproof,” he said. This comment inadvertently fueled the rumors that Melania was eager to get "fresh air" when around her husband due to an acrid smell.
The Tense Interaction in January 2024
In January 2024, a tense interaction between Donald and Melania Trump was captured on video. Melania was seen entering a black SUV as a Secret Service agent held the door, while Donald followed closely behind. It appeared that she was not eager to share the cramped space with her husband. Melania said something to him that caused Donald to turn around with a look of frustration and then enter another SUV. Anti-Trump supporters quickly seized on the footage, with one X user claiming, “If you listen closely, Melania says, 'No, you smell.'” Although the exact words were not audible, the incident did little to dispel the rumors surrounding their relationship.
Former Congressman Speaks Out About Trump’s Smell
The rumors gained more attention when a former Congress member described Trump’s odor as quite pungent. In December 2023, Adam Kinzinger, a former U.S. representative, tweeted, “I'm genuinely surprised how people close to Trump haven't talked about the odor.” He added, “It's truly something to behold. Wear a mask if you can.” Kinzinger continued to elaborate on the issue during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in September 2024. Given Kimmel’s well-known disdain for Trump, the late-night host provided the perfect platform for Kinzinger to describe the president’s scent. “So if you take like armpits, ketchup, makeup, and a little butt. It's probably like that all mixed up,” Kinzinger said. “Maybe it wasn't permanent or all the time, but it's there,” he added.
The Impact of These Claims
These allegations, whether true or exaggerated, have contributed to a growing narrative around Trump’s personal habits and relationships. While some may view these claims as mere gossip, they have sparked significant public interest and debate. Whether these rumors are based on real experiences or simply amplified by media and social platforms, they continue to shape perceptions of the former president and his family.
