Overview of the 2025 Airport Satisfaction Study

J.D. Power has released its annual airport satisfaction study, which ranks U.S. airports based on seven key factors such as ease of travel, food and beverage options, and overall experience. The findings highlight a positive trend in passenger satisfaction despite challenges like flight delays and cancellations.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport was recognized as the best mega airport for the second consecutive year. Similarly, John Wayne Airport in Orange County was named the top large airport for the second straight year. These results reflect an improvement in traveler experiences across many North American airports, even with increasing passenger volumes.

The 2025 study, based on over 30,000 surveys from travelers in the U.S. and Canada, evaluates airports in three categories: mega airports (those handling 33 million or more passengers annually), large airports (10 to 32.9 million passengers), and medium airports (4.5 to 9.9 million passengers). This comprehensive approach ensures a detailed analysis of airport performance.

Factors Contributing to Improved Satisfaction

One major reason for the rise in satisfaction is the completion of significant renovations at many airports. These upgrades have enhanced food, drink, and retail options, making the travel experience more enjoyable for passengers. According to the report, when airports create a genuine sense of location, overall satisfaction scores improve by an average of 190 points.

The survey measures seven critical factors: - Ease of travel through the airport - Level of trust with the airport - Terminal facilities - Airport staff - Departure and arrival experiences - Food, beverage, and retail options - Overall satisfaction with the airport environment

Despite widespread flight disruptions, the improvements in airport infrastructure and services have positively impacted traveler perceptions.

Key Findings from the 2025 Study

Overall satisfaction increased across all categories: - Mega airports saw an 8-point increase - Medium airports recorded a 10-point increase - Large airports experienced a 15-point increase

These improvements indicate that airports are focusing more on enhancing the traveler experience, even amid operational challenges.
