Mercedes' Ultimate EV – Tech Beyond Imagination

Introduction to the New Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology
Mercedes-Benz has recently unveiled its first new mid-sized SUV built on its latest electric platform. This model, the Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology, is a significant evolution of the company's most popular vehicle, offering an electric upgrade that brings a range of advanced features and specifications.
This model replaces the previous EQC in the lineup and offers a substantial improvement in various areas, including charging capabilities, range, and infotainment systems. It competes directly with the new BMW iX3, which also showcases a new platform. Additionally, the GLC incorporates a feature inspired by a luxury model inside.
Design and Storage Enhancements
The new GLC is slightly larger than its combustion engine predecessor, though only by a few millimeters. This minor increase provides small gains in legroom and headroom. Thanks to its electric-first design, the GLC also includes a 'frunk' (front trunk), offering an additional 128 liters of storage under the hood for small bags. Combined with the 570 liters of rear storage, this makes the GLC a practical choice for families and daily commuters.
Charging and Range Capabilities
The GLC is equipped with a 94kWh battery that can be charged at up to 360kW speeds thanks to its 800V architecture. This allows for a total range of up to 713km (443 miles). Using fast DC chargers, drivers can add up to 303 km of range in just 10 minutes. The system also supports bi-directional charging, enabling the vehicle to return energy to the home or the grid.
Infotainment and Interior Features
Inside the GLC, drivers will find the largest screen in any Mercedes to date: the Hyperscreen, measuring 39.1 inches. This futuristic dashboard features matrix backlight technology and offers up to 11 different styles for customization. The Hyperscreen runs the latest MB.OS, which integrates artificial intelligence from Google and Microsoft to learn driver preferences and interact using natural conversation.
Over 40 apps are available for the MBUX system, including video streaming from Disney+ and Microsoft’s Teams for video conferencing. These can be used when the vehicle is parked or by passengers while on the move. Drivers can still take calls on the move, but only as audio, with camera and video functions disabled.
For an enhanced audio experience, the Hyperscreen can be paired with an optional Burmester 4D surround sound system. Dolby Atmos is also available via integrated apps and CarPlay functionality.
Innovative Roof and Interior Options
The GLC offers a Sky Control Panoramic roof option, featuring a large glass surface that can switch between transparent and opaque in nine selectable zones. It can also generate a starry sky effect with 162 Mercedes star logos embedded in the glass. While Rolls-Royce uses a more manual approach with hundreds of lights stitched into the roof, the GLC's tech-driven version is equally impressive.
Interior fabric options include a full vegan choice certified by the Vegan Society, along with selections of Nappa leather and Softtorino leather grain.
Ride and Handling Features
To ensure a smooth ride, the GLC utilizes Airmatic intelligent air suspension, similar to that found in the Mercedes S-Class models. Rear axle steering enhances maneuverability in urban environments. A new one-box braking system maximizes energy recuperation up to 300kW, using either manual braking or resistance options. A heat pump improves thermal management in winter, enhancing heating and battery conditioning.
Driving Assistance and Future Plans
The GLC is equipped with driving assistance functions that use 10 external cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to deliver Level 2 autonomous assistance, including lane change assistance. An Assist Plus system is planned for release later in the year, enabling lane changes for city driving. In the USA and China, an Assist Pro option is also planned, offering point-to-point driving or full Level 3 autonomous driving.
Teaser for the Upcoming C-Class Electric
In addition to the GLC, Mercedes-Benz teased the upcoming C-class electric, which will share the same electric architecture as the GLC. This model is expected to offer an even more impressive range of up to 800km (497 miles).
