In the end, Wanda sacrificed herself to destroy Chthon’s tomb and the last copy of the Darkhold.

Despite this, many fans have never truly believed Wanda was gone for good. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has hinted at more to come, stating he is eager to explore how and when the Scarlet Witch can return. This sentiment was echoed by Matt Shakman, director of WandaVision and Fantastic Four: First Steps. During an interview with Screen Rant, he was asked if he believed Wanda was really gone, and he responded, “Wanda's never gone.” This statement suggests that her story is far from over, even if her current absence leaves fans wondering why she has been out of the picture.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Vision for Wanda’s Return

Elizabeth Olsen, who portrays Wanda, has shared her own ideas about how the character could return. In a pitch to Marvel, she suggested that audiences might see a version of Wanda 50 years older, with long white hair and a face marked by age. While this could be a glimpse into the future of the MCU, another possibility exists based on the comic book lore. In the comics, Wanda disappeared after altering the entire Marvel Universe with the words, “No more Mutants.” She remained hidden for a long time before her son, Billy Maximoff, discovered her in Latveria, where she was set to marry Doctor Doom.

This storyline could serve as inspiration for the MCU. WandaVision already hinted that Wanda is a Nexus being—a concept that could play a crucial role as the multiverse faces collapse. If Doctor Doom is indeed the next major antagonist, it’s possible that Wanda is currently in a different universe, preparing for a potential return.
