Investigation Unfolds in Larimer County: A Case of Deception and Potential Multiple Victims

A recent investigation in Larimer County has revealed a disturbing pattern involving a suspect who allegedly used dating apps to lure individuals into his vehicle, leading to multiple incidents that have raised concerns about the safety of those using such platforms. The case has sparked a broader conversation about personal safety and the importance of reporting suspicious behavior.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Anthony Brown-Wright, was arrested on August 31 after a series of events that began with a hung-up 911 call. Deputies responded to the Douglas Reservoir area in Fort Collins, where they found Brown-Wright and another adult exiting his white GMC Yukon. According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, this incident was not isolated, as investigators discovered similarities between this case and another that occurred at Simpson Ponds on August 22.

In both instances, the victims had met Brown-Wright through a dating app, only to find themselves in dangerous situations. In one case, the victim entered the car expecting to meet a woman but instead encountered a man who had misrepresented his identity. The suspect allegedly trapped the victim inside the vehicle and hung up the phone when the victim attempted to call 911. In the second incident, the victim also found themselves in a situation where the person they met did not match the description provided on the app.

The sheriff’s office reported that the suspect became violent in the second case, preventing the victim from leaving the vehicle. However, the victim managed to escape and later faced threats from Brown-Wright, who reportedly suggested that the victim could avoid police by performing sexual acts instead.

Notably, both victims are transgender, and investigators are currently looking into whether the suspect intentionally targeted them based on their gender identity. This raises important questions about the motivations behind such actions and the need for greater awareness and support for marginalized communities.

Brown-Wright is currently held in the Larimer County Jail on a $25,000 cash/surety bond. He faces several charges, including:

  • Criminal Extortion (class 4 felony)
  • Third Degree Assault (class 1 misdemeanor)
  • Obstruction of Phone or Telegraph Service (class 1 misdemeanor)
  • First Degree Trespass with Intent to Commit Crime (class 1 misdemeanor)
  • False Imprisonment (class 2 misdemeanor) – 2 counts
  • Theft less than $300 (petty offense)

Larimer County Sheriff John Feyen emphasized the importance of consent in any interaction, whether it be in a committed relationship or a casual meetup. He expressed gratitude to the two individuals who came forward and encouraged anyone who has experienced similar situations to reach out for help. "We’re not here to judge. We’re here to support you and keep our community safe," he said.

The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information about Brown-Wright or other potential incidents to contact Deputy Megan Job at 970-577-2085. Individuals can also provide anonymous tips by calling the Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 or submitting a tip online.

This ongoing investigation highlights the need for vigilance and awareness, especially in an era where digital interactions can sometimes lead to real-world dangers. It serves as a reminder that safety should always be a priority, and that speaking out can make a significant difference in preventing further harm.
