Lane Closures Confirmed for Sunday Night at Lancaster County Project Site: PennDOT

Lane Restrictions and Construction Updates on Key Routes in Lancaster County
Motorists in Lancaster County should be aware of upcoming lane restrictions and construction activities that will impact major roadways this weekend. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that lane closures will take place on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 222, as well as the westbound lanes of Route 30, at the Route 30/222 Interchange Improvement Project.
These restrictions will be in effect from 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, through 6 a.m. on Monday, September 8. Weather permitting, alternating left and right lane closures will occur on the northbound and southbound sections of Route 222 to allow for barrier installation and inlet work in the median. Additionally, a right lane closure will be implemented on the westbound lanes of Route 30 to facilitate pavement marking applications.
PennDOT urges drivers to remain alert and exercise caution while navigating through the work zone. These changes are part of a larger project aimed at improving the Route 222/Route 30 Interchange and reconstructing Route 222 from the interchange northward approximately one mile near Stoner Park, just south of the Landis Valley Road bridge spanning the highway.
Improvements on the North Side of the Interchange
The project includes several key enhancements on the north side of the interchange. A second lane will be added to the southbound Route 222 ramp leading to westbound Route 30, connecting it with the existing northbound Route 272 (Oregon Pike) exit ramp. Additionally, a third lane will be constructed from the westbound Route 30 ramp to the northbound Route 222, extending this lane to the existing westbound Route 30 third lane approaching Oregon Pike (Route 272).
Enhancements on the South Side of the Interchange
On the south side of the interchange, a second ramp lane will be built from eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222. This new ramp will connect with the existing Route 30 travel lane (right lane), giving drivers using the right lane of eastbound Route 30 the option to either continue east or exit to northbound Route 222.
Expansion of Route 222
Route 222 will be expanded from four lanes to six lanes from the interchange to the northern end of the project limits. Furthermore, two bridges carrying Route 222 ramps over Route 30 will be replaced. The northbound Route 222 bridge will be widened to accommodate two lanes. The Eden Road bridge spanning Route 222 north of the interchange will remain in place, but the road under the bridge will be lowered to increase clearance.
Ongoing Traffic Management
Throughout the duration of the project, four lanes of traffic will be maintained to ensure minimal disruption. The project is expected to be completed by September 3, 2027. JD Eckman, Inc., based in Atglen, PA, is the contractor overseeing this nearly $72.2 million initiative.
