Major FBI Investigation into $34 Million Fraud Scheme
The FBI is currently on the hunt for Elaine Angene Escoe, a 40-year-old woman from Palm Beach County, Florida, who is accused of orchestrating a massive fraud scheme involving over $34 million in federal pandemic relief funds. According to the FBI Miami Field Office, Escoe allegedly submitted more than 90 fraudulent applications between May 2020 and November 2021, targeting several key programs such as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL), Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF), and Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG).
Escoe was last seen in Palm Beach County on June 3, just days before she failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing on June 5. A federal arrest warrant was issued shortly after her disappearance. Authorities claim that she used false payroll data, inflated employee counts, and fabricated revenue figures to secure these funds. The investigation continues as law enforcement seeks to locate Escoe and bring her to justice.
Local High School Band Dreams Big with International Opportunity
A local high school band from Palm Beach Lakes High School has been given an extraordinary opportunity to perform on one of the world’s most iconic stages. The Ram Regiment Band has been invited to participate in the 40th annual London New Year’s Day Parade in 2026. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is now within reach, but the students need support from the community to make it happen.
Band Director Joshua Velez emphasized the significance of this opportunity for the students, especially the seniors. “It would mean the world to them. I mean, they've put in so much work over the years,” he said. For senior student Justin Young, the invitation represents a dream come true. “I grew up around music. My grandpa played bass guitar. He taught me how to play. My dad was actually in the Ram Regiment, played the same drum. So it was kind of almost a legacy falling down,” Young shared.
Port St. Lucie Takes a Stand Against Urban Expansion
Port St. Lucie has experienced rapid growth over the past few years, with more than 50,000 people moving to the area since 2020, bringing the population to approximately 260,000. However, city leaders are now taking a different approach by rejecting a proposal that would rezone 464 acres near Glades Cut Off Road and the C-24 Canal for hundreds of new homes.
City Council members have made it clear that they are against the expansion, stating, “There's no way I'm going to approve more rooftops to come before St. Lucie.” Instead, the city is focusing on preserving green spaces by purchasing land for future use. One such effort includes acquiring 104 acres at Rosser Lakes to maintain natural areas for residents.
Tragic Florida Turnpike Crash Claims Life of Haitian Father
A deadly crash on Florida’s Turnpike has brought attention to the tragic loss of 30-year-old Herby Dufresne, a Haitian father who came to the United States legally in search of better opportunities. Dufresne was one of three victims in the accident, leaving behind his mother in Haiti, four sisters, and a 5-year-old daughter in the Dominican Republic.
“He was very hard worker, very very hard worker,” said Livenson Pierre, a close family friend. “He loves life. He was full of life. His family is completely devastated.” The incident has sparked conversations about the dangers of the Turnpike and the importance of road safety.
Drug Bust Involves Multiple Agencies Across South Florida
Law enforcement agencies across Palm Beach and Broward counties have made significant progress in a major drug trafficking operation. Nineteen individuals were arrested in connection with a large-scale drug bust, which was part of an initiative called "Operation Trackside." The investigation, which lasted 14 months, involved collaboration between multiple agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and various local police departments.
Police Chief Joe DeGiulio highlighted the importance of the operation, calling it a major victory in the fight against fentanyl and cocaine. The investigation began after an anonymous handwritten letter was received in July 2024, prompting authorities to take action against the drug trafficking network.
