Harry pays respects at Queen's grave during UK visit sparking royal meeting rumors

A Possible Rapprochement Between Prince Harry and King Charles III
Prince Harry recently arrived in the United Kingdom for a visit to his charities, raising questions about whether he will meet with his father, King Charles III, for the first time in 19 months. This event has sparked speculation about a potential thaw in their long-standing, tense relationship.
The prince’s trip coincided with the third anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, which some believe could serve as an opportunity for a long-awaited reconciliation between Charles and his estranged son. During his visit, Harry paid respects at the monarch's grave in Windsor, laying flowers as a gesture of remembrance.
Harry has maintained minimal contact with his father and older brother, Prince William, since he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from royal duties and relocated to California in 2020. Their relationship became even more strained following a series of public revelations, including a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix documentary, and Harry’s memoir, “Spare.”
A History of Tension
The last time Harry and Charles met was in February 2024, when the prince traveled to London after learning of his father’s cancer diagnosis. They spent about 45 minutes together before Charles returned to his Sandringham estate to recover from treatment. The previous time Harry was in London was in April, when the Court of Appeal dismissed his attempt to restore police protection that had been removed after he stopped being a working royal. At that time, Charles was on a state visit to Italy, making a meeting impossible.
This legal battle created additional strain on their relationship, as it involved Harry criticizing the royal family in court. However, once the case was resolved, there were signs of a shift in tone. Shortly after, Harry expressed a desire for reconciliation, stating, “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” He also acknowledged the fragility of life, saying, “I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
Despite this olive branch, Harry remained critical of the royal household, accusing them of making the decision to remove his security in an effort to control him and his wife while putting their safety at risk. He emphasized that he would struggle to forgive the decision that affected his daily life and put his family in harm’s way.
Signs of Change
In July, a new communications team for Harry and Meghan, led by Meredith Maines, was seen interacting with Tobyn Andreae, the king’s press representative. This encounter, captured by the Mail on Sunday, was dubbed “The secret Harry peace summit,” suggesting a shift in approach from both sides.
Harry’s recent appearance at the WellChild Awards in London further highlighted his continued involvement with charitable causes. The event celebrates the bravery of seriously ill children and those who care for them, a cause Harry has long supported. During the event, he engaged with young attendees, sharing lighthearted moments and showing his familiar charm.
However, the damage caused by past allegations of insensitivity, conflict, and racism against the royal family may be difficult to undo. His memoir, “Spare,” exposed private conversations and revealed tensions within the family, including a conversation between Charles and his sons held in a graveyard to avoid media attention.
A New Chapter?
As King Charles approaches his 77th birthday and continues his cancer treatment, there may be a growing desire to spend more time with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. Harry, however, has placed the responsibility for any reconciliation on his family, emphasizing the need for truth before any real progress can be made.
In his BBC interview, he stated that reconciliation is possible only if there is honesty. While he expressed hope for a resolution, he also acknowledged that the decision ultimately rests with his family. “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them,” he said.
