Community Spotlight: Sept. 7 and Beyond

Barn Tour

The Romeo Historical Society is hosting a barn tour on September 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Romeo Arts and Archives Center, located at 290 North Main St., Romeo. This event showcases a variety of barn styles, including residential farming barns, storage barns, workshops, and commercial businesses. Participants will have the opportunity to explore these structures and learn about the history they hold. Tickets are priced at $20 for individuals aged 13 and older, $10 for children between 6 and 12 years old, and free for those five years and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the Arts and Archives Center, Town Hall Antiques at 205 North Main St., or online through the society's website.

Bottle and Can Drive

Woman’s Life Chapter 855 continues its ongoing bottle and can drive, offering drop-off locations in Richmond and Memphis to assist those in need within the community. The organization also provides a pick-up service for larger donations. For more details, interested individuals can contact them by calling 586-318-4053.

Washington Historical Museum

The Washington Historical Museum is open on September 14 and 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 58230 Van Dyke, Washington Township. The museum features exhibits on scouting, military history, old toys, school artifacts, vintage clothing, and more. A chairlift is available for those needing access to the second floor. Upcoming Meetings

The Washington Art Guild meets on September 8 at the Romeo Community Center, 361 Morton St. Attendees should use the south and west parking lots and enter through the south door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and socializing, with the business meeting starting at 7 p.m. Discussions will include new venues and topics for the 2025-2026 season. All are welcome, and there is no charge for visitors.

Auto Show

Cars R Stars will take place on September 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Packard Proving Grounds, 49965 Van Dyke Avenue, Shelby Township. Admission costs $10 for adults, while children under 12 are free when accompanied by a paying adult. The event includes classic and vintage cars, a swap meet, entertainment, food vendors, and a gift shop. Car owners can register for $25 if they wish to be judged or $20 just for showing. Recreational Programs

RARE Backyard Bash is an event for adults 21 and older, taking place on September 12 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 18185 Sycamore, Roseville. The cost is $12 for Roseville and Eastpointe residents or $14 for non-residents. The event includes food trucks (additional cost), beverages, yard games, cards, music, and a cornhole competition (additional cost of $10 per person). Registered participants will receive three beer/wine tickets, and non-alcoholic beverages will also be provided. IDs will be checked at the event. Registration can be completed at rare-mi.org.

Widowed Friends Events

There are several events planned for widowed friends throughout the month:

  • The Widowed Friends Book Club meets at 10:30 a.m. on September 12 at National Coney Island, 30140 Van Dyke, Warren. The selected book is 'Lady Tan’s Circle of Friends' by Lisa See. Contact host Elaine at 586-291-2471.
  • Another breakfast is set for 10:30 a.m. on September 16 at Pancake Factory, 13693 23 Mile Road, Shelby Township. Contact host Ellen at 586-489-2569 via text or cell.
  • A meal is planned for 4:30 p.m. on September 18 at Khoi Fai Thai Dining, 48856 Romeo Plank, Macomb. Happy hour food or signature dishes will be available. Contact host Esther at 586-264-1939; the limit is 16 people.
  • Dancing takes place every Tuesday at Polish Century Club, 33204 Maple Lane, Sterling Heights. Doors open at 6 p.m., with music from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per person with a cash bar. A table will be reserved for widowed friends. Contact Liz at 586-801-4536.
