A Retail Worker's Unlikely Fame: Being Mistaken for Sabrina Carpenter

Olivia Fano, a 20-year-old retail worker from Southport, Lancashire, UK, has found herself in an unusual situation—often mistaken for pop star Sabrina Carpenter. This resemblance has led to frequent encounters with strangers who approach her for selfies and even offer to buy her drinks on nights out.

The young woman, who is currently single, says that the comparisons to the "Espresso" singer have become a regular part of her life. She notes that being likened to Sabrina is an “amazing” compliment, and it has even led to more romantic interest in the past year.

Despite this, Olivia emphasizes that her vintage-inspired hairstyle and makeup were part of her look long before Sabrina became a household name. “I do see the resemblance,” she said. “I noticed it two years ago and my sister mentioned it, and I thought, ‘I kind of do look like her.’ Since then it’s been constant, especially over the last year.”

She shared that the attention comes in various places—club bathrooms, supermarkets, coffee shops, and everywhere in between. “People automatically think I did the hair to look like her,” she explained. “I’ve had this hairstyle for years. I think that’s the first thing people notice. We have quite similar facial features, the eyes, the eyebrows, the nose, and the way I do my makeup. I do a blush lip-liner look.”

Her striking similarity to the singer draws attention on nights out, with eager men buying her drinks and asking for selfies. One particular incident occurred at a club in Manchester, where a man believed she was Sabrina and kept buying her drinks, prompting others to do the same. “I had to give some of the drinks to my friends because it was too much,” she recalled.

Another memorable moment happened in Prague, where a man gasped loudly upon seeing her, thinking she was Sabrina. “I was in this yellow babydoll dress, so it was very her style,” she added.

Olivia also noted that people often stop her in the street just to say, “Oh my God.” She explained, “I do notice people looking at me and then they have to explain themselves. I’ve had quite a few people ask me for photos. When I went to Leeds last year, I got a lot of photos. I don’t mind it; it’s an amazing compliment.”

The resemblance has not only brought her attention but also boosted her confidence and even improved her dating life. “It’s the first thing [men] bring up,” she said. “It’s almost like the perfect pick-up line, because they just come up and say it. A lot more boys have asked me out in the last year.”

On dates, she found that the comment often comes up early. “I did date a guy, and one of the first things he said to me was, ‘Has anyone told you look like Sabrina Carpenter?’ People are automatically nice because they have a compliment to say first thing. I always meet really nice people.”

She added that people feel like they know her, and many call her Sabrina. “I just answer to it now.”
