Woman Charged with Violating Protection Order While in Jail

Multiple Charges for a Woman in Custody

In Edwardsville, a 47-year-old woman currently held at the Madison County Jail has been charged with two additional violations of an order of protection. These incidents allegedly occurred while she was already in jail. The charges were filed on August 14 and involve two counts of violation of an order of protection, both classified as Class 4 felonies.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department handled the case. According to court records, the suspect is accused of texting and calling the same protected individual on August 8 and 10 while in custody. As a result, she was remanded back to jail. A petition submitted by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office indicated that the woman had previously violated an order of protection issued in October 2024.

This is not the first time she has faced legal consequences related to this victim. She had a prior misdemeanor case where she contacted the victim’s workplace. Additionally, she has five other pending charges for violating orders of protection against different individuals this year. On August 4, she was charged with two counts of violating a stalking or no contact order (second or subsequent offense), and two more similar charges were filed on July 31 in separate cases.

Domestic Battery Charge for Granite City Man

A 30-year-old man from Granite City was charged on August 13 with aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and domestic battery (second or subsequent offense), a Class 4 felony. The Madison Police Department presented the case.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on July 30 when the suspect allegedly strangled a household or family member, pushed the victim against a wall, and slammed her head into it. He was ordered to remain in jail. A petition to deny pre-trial release from the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office revealed that the suspect and the victim had been arguing on social media throughout the morning. The suspect then went to the victim's home, chased her to her car, and the argument continued after she returned.

The victim’s sister attempted to intervene, but the suspect bypassed her and grabbed the victim by the neck before slamming her head against a wall. When police and emergency medical services arrived, they found the suspect leaving through the back door. It was noted that the suspect is currently on pre-trial release for a previous felony domestic battery charge involving the same victim and has a history of aggravated domestic battery against a different victim.

Assault on a Police Officer

A 29-year-old man from Wood River was charged on August 13 with aggravated assault of a peace officer, a Class 4 felony, and resisting a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor. The Wood River Police Department handled the case.

Court records indicate that on July 11, the suspect approached a Wood River police officer in an aggressive manner and attempted to resist arrest. He was eventually released from custody.

All individuals involved have only been charged and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Not all charges may be reported.
