White House Warns 'The View' Could Be Canceled Over Joy Behar's Comments

Political Tensions Escalate on "The View"
During the Wednesday, July 23, episode of ABC’s The View, the hosts delved into a heated discussion about recent political accusations. Specifically, they addressed former President Donald Trump's claims that former President Barack Obama had engaged in treasonous behavior. In response, Joy Behar took the opportunity to challenge Trump’s narrative by highlighting his own controversial actions.
Behar pointedly questioned who was responsible for the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, which was led by Trump supporters. “First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama,” she said. She then added a sharp critique of Trump’s personality, noting his jealousy toward Obama. “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.”
Following the episode, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers responded to Behar’s comments with a strong statement. She described Behar as an “irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Rogers also claimed that The View has its “lowest ratings” in recent years and suggested that Behar should reflect on her own feelings of jealousy toward Trump’s popularity. She even went as far as to suggest that the show might be next to be pulled off air if it continues to criticize the former president.
However, a spokesperson for The View did not directly address Rogers’ comments but refuted the claim about declining viewership. They stated that the show is actually performing well, with “the most-watched in four years” and ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among network daytime talk shows and news programs for the fifth consecutive season.
Patrick Rodenbush, a spokesperson for Barack Obama, also responded to Trump’s accusations against the former president. He called the allegations “ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction.” Regarding Trump’s claims that Obama tried to rig the 2016 election, Rodenbush emphasized that no evidence supports this assertion. He noted that a 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by then-Chairman Marco Rubio, confirmed that while Russia attempted to influence the election, there was no evidence of vote manipulation.
A New Round of Criticism from Trump
The political drama surrounding The View comes just days after Donald Trump made headlines by celebrating the cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. On Friday, July 18, Trump tweeted, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” He also speculated that Jimmy Kimmel might be next, claiming he has “even less talent than Colbert.”
Trump further criticized Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld, calling him “better than all of them combined, including the Moron [Jimmy Fallon] on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.” While CBS stated that the cancellation of The Late Show was a financial decision, many fans pointed out that it occurred shortly after Paramount settled a $16 million lawsuit with Trump. The lawsuit involved a 2024 60 Minutes interview featuring Vice President Kamala Harris, which Trump claimed had been heavily edited.
Stephen Colbert addressed Trump’s comments during the July 21 episode of The Late Show. He joked, “How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go f*** yourself!” His remarks highlighted the ongoing tension between Trump and the media, especially those who have criticized his policies and rhetoric.
Ongoing Media and Political Rivalries
As these events unfold, the relationship between political figures and media personalities continues to be a focal point of public discourse. From The View to The Late Show, the entertainment world remains entangled in the broader political landscape, with each side using their platforms to challenge and critique the other.
With the upcoming season of The View set to air weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC, the show is expected to continue its role as a hub for political commentary and debate. As tensions rise, the intersection of politics and entertainment will likely remain a significant area of interest for audiences across the country.
