Tim Burton mentioned during an interview with Total Film that he is excited about the new additions, especially Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, and Billie Piper. However, some characters from the first season have left, such as Dr. Valerie Kinbott and Marilyn Thornhill. Co-showrunner Miles Millar noted that no one is officially dead in the show, so there’s always a way.
Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe, is not returning, as confirmed by reports and the actor himself. Jenna Ortega also shared her thoughts on the possibility of Winona Ryder making a cameo, but she admitted it might be difficult due to her busy schedule.
Netflix released a new look at the season 2 cast, featuring a mystery character whose identity is unknown. Some speculate it could be Billie Piper's new role, but it remains unclear. During the Tudum 2025 event, Lady Gaga was confirmed as playing Rosaline Rotwood, a teacher at Nevermore Academy. She also performed a mash-up of her songs during the event.
Haley Joel Osment's role as The Scalper was revealed during the event, where the first six minutes of season 2 were shown. The footage included Wednesday traveling to Kansas City to stop a serial killer with a strange obsession for dolls.
Wednesday Season 2 Plot
According to Netflix, the plotline for Wednesday season 2 follows: "Wednesday Addams returns to prowl the Gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where fresh foes and woes await. This season, Wednesday must navigate family, friends, and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery."
Jenna Ortega described season 2 as "bigger, bolder, gorier, and a bit darker," as well as "sillier in the best way possible." The season picks up right after the tense finale of season 1, where Wednesday received photos from a mysterious stalker. Co-creator Miles Millar explained that this stalker proves threats still exist for both Wednesday and the school.
The stalker is revealed to be Agnes, a teenage fangirl of Wednesday's who kidnaps Enid and Bruno. Meanwhile, Wednesday is on the hunt for the Avian, a bird-controlling serial killer who is eliminating loose ends, including the former Sheriff Galpin. Her investigation leads her to Willow Hill Asylum, where she uncovers the Avian's identity as Judi, Dr. Fairburn's assistant. After a power surge caused by Fester, several prisoners escape, including Hyde Tyler, who kills his 'mother'/master Marilyn and throws Wednesday onto the ground, ending season 2, part 1 in brutal fashion. The season 2, part 2 trailer reveals that Wednesday survived and is in a coma.
Ortega also mentioned that Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death inspired the new episodes, though the exact implications are not yet clear. She cited the 1964 film adaptation starring Vincent Price as a specific starting point. While the show is horror-inspired, Ortega emphasized that it's not the goriest show of all time, noting that there are young viewers watching.
During the Tudum 2025 showcase, the first six minutes of Wednesday season 2 were revealed, showing Wednesday investigating The Scalper (Haley Joel Osment) with the help of Thing.
