Weapons Rekindle Box Office Bloodbath

Box Office Dominance Continues for "Weapons"
The horror film Weapons, starring Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Alden Ehrenreich, has once again proven its strength at the box office. In its second weekend, the film earned $25 million domestically, bringing its total to $43.4 million globally. Directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on Barbarian, the film continues to captivate audiences with its twisty narrative and intense atmosphere.
This performance outshines several other major releases, including Disney's Freakier Friday, which features Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. While the comedy managed to secure the No. 2 spot domestically with $14.5 million, it fell to No. 5 globally with $23.8 million. The film had previously dominated the box office in its debut week, but the gap between the two films has slightly narrowed.
Another notable release this week was Nobody, the sequel to Bob Odenkirk’s 2021 hit. The slapstick comedy took in $9.2 million domestically, earning it the No. 3 position, while it ranked No. 2 globally with $32 million. Despite its strong opening, it still couldn’t match the success of Weapons.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps continues to slow down after its fourth week in theaters. The film, featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, brought in $8.8 million domestically and $18 million globally. Though it has amassed a $247 million domestic haul, it lags behind the DCU’s Superman, which is holding strong with a $5.2 million take in its sixth week, totaling $340 million.
International Box Office Highlights
On the global stage, Japan saw a significant milestone with the release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle. The dark animated fantasy opened to an impressive $31.3 million, bringing its total to $192.2 million across nine markets. This achievement marks the highest-ever animated opening in Japan, surpassing previous records set by Frozen II and Inside Out 2.
Upcoming Releases
Looking ahead, Weapons appears poised for another successful weekend, especially as it faces competition from a Jude Law thriller and an Aubrey Plaza-Margaret Qualley caper. The upcoming releases include Eden, a survival thriller directed by Ron Howard, based on the true story of European émigrés who face chaos after settling in the Galápagos. The film stars Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, and Vanessa Kirby.
Another highly anticipated release is Honey Don't!, the latest solo project from Ethan Coen. The film features Margaret Qualley, Chris Evans, and Aubrey Plaza, marking her return to the big screen following the passing of her husband, Jeff Baena. This film promises to be a compelling addition to the summer lineup.
