Residents of Potpourri Village Struggle with Ongoing Water Leak

Residents of Potpourri Village, a mobile home park in Lafayette, Louisiana, are facing an ongoing water leak that has significantly disrupted their daily lives. The issue has been a persistent problem for several months, and many residents feel that no one is taking responsibility for resolving the situation.

A resident who prefers to remain anonymous shared her frustration with the local news station. She explained that the leak has been a major concern for six to eight months, causing constant flooding in her yard. "We’ve been dealing with this for months now and nothing is still not being done," she said. "Everybody’s blaming everyone and we’re the ones that are suffering in the process."

The resident has lived in the mobile home park for four years and described the impact of the leak on her life. Water seeps up from underground, creating a wet and hazardous environment. "Five, six feet from the ditch into my yard I can’t walk there, I’m sinking up to my knees, that’s how wet it is," she said. The area has become so saturated that she cannot use a lawn mower or weed eater to maintain her yard.

In addition to the physical challenges, the water has attracted unwanted wildlife, including snakes, mosquitoes, and even water moccasins. Heavy rain exacerbates the problem, causing the entire yard to flood. Despite multiple attempts to contact the Lafayette Waterworks District North and the park's owners, the resident has not received any clear information about when the issue will be resolved.

She mentioned that she has reached out to the water company, which confirmed the leak is on their property. However, they have been unable to locate the exact spot due to poor drainage. "They can’t get to the leak to actually find the exact spot that it’s in because there’s no proper drainage," she said.

News 10 also contacted Kris Hodges, a co-owner of Potpourri Village, who provided a statement regarding the situation. According to Hodges, the water leak has existed for years but has worsened in recent months. A team from the Lafayette Parish Water Works District North has been on site to address the issue. However, the district claims they cannot proceed with repairs until the area is dry.

Hodges noted that the park has been running a pump for several weeks in an effort to dry the area enough for repairs. Unfortunately, this has not been effective due to the active leak. The same problem is reported in other parts of the community. Hodges also pointed out that the Lafayette Parish Water Works District North is losing money, which is leading to higher water costs for all users in their service area.

Challenges Faced by the Community

The ongoing water leak has created a range of challenges for the residents of Potpourri Village. Beyond the immediate issues of flooding and safety, the situation has caused emotional and financial stress. Many residents feel that their concerns are being ignored, and they are left to deal with the consequences of a problem that should be resolved by the responsible parties.

The lack of communication and action from both the water district and the park's management has led to growing frustration among the community. Residents are calling for more transparency and a quicker resolution to the issue. They believe that the situation is not only affecting their quality of life but also their safety and well-being.

As the situation continues, the residents of Potpourri Village are hoping for a swift and effective solution to the water leak. They are urging the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the problem and prevent further damage to their homes and property.
