U.S. News & World Report has unveiled its latest rankings for the best hospitals in the United States for the 2025-2026 academic year. This annual report evaluates hospitals based on their performance in 15 adult specialties, as well as their capabilities in various surgical procedures and medical conditions. The goal is to provide patients with a reliable resource to make informed decisions about their healthcare.
Several hospitals across Pennsylvania have been recognized for their excellence in patient care, including the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Derry Township and the Holy Spirit Medical Center in East Pennsboro Township. These institutions have demonstrated a commitment to quality care that aligns with the standards set by U.S. News & World Report.
Recognition of Excellence at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center received national recognition in three key specialties: gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics, and ear, nose, and throat. Additionally, the center was acknowledged as high performing in five other areas, including cancer, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.
In terms of regional rankings, the Medical Center was ranked #1 in the Harrisburg metro region and #6 in Pennsylvania. Dr. Michael Kupferman, CEO of Penn State Health, expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting the dedication of the hospital's staff and medical professionals.
High Performing Hospitals in Pennsylvania
Holy Spirit Medical Center was noted for its high performance in treating specific conditions such as hip fractures, pneumonia, and heart arrhythmia. This recognition underscores the hospital’s ability to deliver effective care in critical situations.
Select Medical, a rehabilitation-focused organization based in Upper Allen Township, also had several facilities listed. Among them was the Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture between Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Select Medical. This facility was ranked #47 nationally for rehabilitation services.
Tom Mullin, president of Select Medical, emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and patient experience. He stated that the hospital’s continued presence on the prestigious list reflects its commitment to these values.
