Upcoming Weather Shift in South Texas: A Timeline Ahead

Weather Outlook for San Antonio This Week
Over the weekend, a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico significantly influenced the weather across South Texas. It brought in moisture and led to scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the region. In San Antonio, while not everyone experienced substantial rainfall, the increased cloud cover and occasional storms helped keep temperatures near or slightly below average. However, a shift in the weather pattern is expected, with above-average temperatures returning soon. Here's what to anticipate each day this week.
San Antonio Weather Timeline
This week’s forecast will be shaped by a developing area of high pressure over the Lone Star State. High pressure systems cause air to sink, which compresses near the surface and heats up quickly. This phenomenon can act like a "heat dome," trapping hot air near the ground and preventing it from rising into the atmosphere.
Monday
On Monday, early morning temperatures will be pleasant, with lows dropping into the mid- to upper 70s under mostly cloudy skies. The cloud cover will gradually decrease through the late morning, becoming mostly sunny by noon. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees by around noon and could peak at 96 to 97 degrees by late afternoon—close to the climate normal for late July. Humidity levels will remain relatively high, leading to maximum heat index values between 101 and 103 degrees. Winds will be light, ranging from 5 to 10 mph. An isolated shower may occur toward the coastal plains, but the chance of rain in San Antonio will be less than 10%.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning will see fewer clouds, allowing temperatures to cool slightly to 73 to 75 degrees by around 7 a.m. As high pressure builds across Texas, afternoon temperatures will rise quickly. San Antonio is expected to hit 90 degrees just after 11 a.m., eventually peaking near 98 degrees by late afternoon. Skies will be completely sunny, and there will be virtually no chance of rain. Mostly clear skies will continue into late Tuesday night, offering excellent conditions for viewing the Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids meteor showers, which peak Tuesday night and into early Wednesday.
Wednesday
Wednesday is likely to be the hottest day of the week as high pressure continues to strengthen. San Antonio could experience high temperatures of either 99 or 100 degrees. If the temperature reaches 100 degrees, it would mark only the fifth time this year that such a reading has been recorded.
Thursday and Friday
Mid-range weather models suggest that a weak low-pressure system might move into Texas from the northern Gulf or Southeast U.S. This system could bring some cloud cover and scattered rain to the area. Temperatures are expected to drop by a couple of degrees. At this point, the system does not appear to have a major impact, with only a 20% chance of rainfall. However, it is still worth monitoring, so keep an eye on local updates for the latest information.
