Marco Penge Secures Victory at Danish Golf Championship

The Danish Golf Championship, held at the Furesø Golf Klub in Copenhagen, Denmark, featured a $2.75 million prize purse that attracted top golfers from around the world. Among them was English golfer Marco Penge, who made a dramatic final-day push to claim his second European Tour title of the season.

Penge edged out home favorite Rasmus Hojgaard by a single stroke on the final day, securing a hard-fought victory. Hojgaard had been in a strong position earlier in the round, but a critical mistake on the back nine cost him the opportunity to climb into Ryder Cup automatic qualifying positions.

Hojgaard dropped four strokes over four holes starting from the 10th, allowing Penge to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final hole. Despite Hojgaard’s impressive eagle putt from 10 feet on the 18th, Penge remained composed and sank a three-foot birdie to seal the win.

A Record-Breaking Start

Penge’s performance started with a bang, as he set a record-breaking seven-under 64 in the first round. This early success put him two shots ahead of the field and set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

This victory marked Penge’s second title of the season, following his win at the Hainan Classic in April. The win also helped him top the Closing Swing rankings, earning him a bonus of $200,000.

Reflections on the Win

After the tournament, Penge expressed his satisfaction with his performance this year. He noted that coming back from a period of time off, he had quickly regained his form and achieved significant milestones.

“I’ve been playing so well this year,” Penge said. “Coming back from my time off, to have won so soon after that and to achieve what I’ve achieved since I won has been amazing.”

He credited his team, family, and everyone involved for their support, which has kept him motivated and striving for more. Penge also praised Hojgaard for his incredible performance, particularly his eagle on the final hole.

“We were both pushing as hard as we could, and I was the winner at the end of the day, but I’ve loved every minute of playing two rounds of golf with him.”

A Goal for the Ryder Cup

Penge admitted that his main objective is to secure a spot in the Ryder Cup squad. He plans to play six consecutive weeks, giving it his all in an effort to make a statement.

“I’m just trying to play as well as I can every week and see what happens,” he said.
