Undrafted Rookie with Potential to Make the Clippers Roster

The Los Angeles Clippers have long been known for their strategic approach to player development, and this philosophy was on full display during the 2025 NBA Summer League. While much of the attention was focused on high-profile prospects like Cam Christie and Patrick Baldwin Jr., the team also took notice of an undrafted rookie who showed promise in his own right: Jahmyl Telfort.

Telfort, a 24-year-old forward from Montreal, had a unique college journey that set him apart from many of his peers. He spent five years in college, starting at Northeastern before transferring to Butler in the 2023-2024 season. At Butler, he became a key contributor, averaging 16.0 points per game in his final year and earning All-Big East third-team honors. Despite his strong performance, Telfort’s age and limited offensive production kept him off the radar of most NBA scouts ahead of the 2025 draft.

His lack of pre-draft exposure meant he received only a few workout invitations, including one from the Toronto Raptors. However, it was the Clippers who ultimately gave him a shot by including him on their Summer League roster.

While Telfort didn’t make a significant impact during the Summer League, averaging just 3.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 12.3 minutes per game, his presence on the team signaled that the Clippers saw something in him. The team is known for taking risks on players who fit specific roles, and Telfort could be exactly that kind of player.

With 16 players already under contract, Telfort is unlikely to receive a standard NBA deal. However, there are still possibilities for him to make the final roster. The Clippers currently have three two-way contracts filled by Patrick Baldwin Jr., Kobe Sanders, and Trentyn Flowers. But with the team exceeding the luxury tax threshold after acquiring Brook Lopez and Bradley Beal, they may choose to convert one of those two-way deals into a standard contract. If that happens, a spot could open up for an undrafted player like Telfort.

Telfort isn’t a flashy scorer, but that might be exactly what the Clippers need. With a roster filled with stars like Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Chris Paul, and Beal, there’s little room for another ball-dominant guard. Instead, Telfort could fill a role as a hustle player, providing energy and defensive intensity off the bench. His 6-foot-7, 220-pound frame is already NBA-ready, and his defensive instincts make him a valuable asset.

While Telfort isn’t a prototypical three-and-D wing, he has shown improvement in his shooting over the past few seasons. After hitting just 32% of his three-point attempts in 2023-2024, he improved to 36.1% in 2024-2025. Although his free-throw percentage dropped during that time, he has the confidence and mechanics to continue developing his jump shot.

Although he won’t be a 15-point-per-game scorer, Telfort’s play style aligns with what the Clippers might be looking for in a final roster spot. His limited role during the Summer League could translate into more playing time in training camp, and if he continues to show dedication and effort, he could realistically find himself on an NBA roster by October.

For now, the Clippers will be watching closely as Telfort works his way through training camp. If he can prove that he belongs, he could become a valuable piece of the puzzle for a team that values grit and hustle over flashiness.
