Ukraine Unveils Flamingo Cruise Missiles: Specs and Power Revealed

Introduction to the Flamingo Cruise Missile
Ukraine has taken a significant step in its military development by starting the serial production of the Flamingo cruise missile. This new missile is reported to have a range of up to 3,000 kilometers, which is a major leap forward in terms of strategic capabilities. According to reports, the Flamingo's warhead is twice as powerful as that of the American Tomahawk, making it a formidable addition to Ukraine's arsenal.
Details and Specifications
A Ukrainian photojournalist named Yefrem Lukatsky shared images of the Flamingo on his Facebook page, hinting at more detailed information to come. Although only the name and the claimed range were provided, experts have noted that such missiles are rare globally. The Flamingo's range of 3,000 km is nearly double that of the modern American Tomahawk Block V, which has a flight range of over 1,600 km.
Experts believe that the missile depicted in the photos is likely the FP-5 cruise missile. This model was first showcased in early February 2025 by the Milanion Group at the IDEX-2025 exhibition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The public specifications for the FP-5, also known as the Flamingo, include:
- Range: 3,000 km
- Flight time: Over 4 hours
- Maximum speed: 950 km/h
- Cruise speed: 850–900 km/h
- Wingspan: 6 meters
- Maximum takeoff weight: 6 tons
- Warhead weight: 1 ton
These specifications highlight the missile's advanced capabilities. Experts point out that there is no equivalent to this missile in the world due to its unique design and performance characteristics.
Key Advantages and Design Features
One of the most notable features of the FP-5 is its warhead weight of 1 ton, which makes it twice as powerful as the American Tomahawk, whose warhead weighs 450 kg. Another significant advantage is the production capacity. The Milanion Group claims that they can manufacture over 50 FP-5 missiles per month. This is made possible by a simplified design that eliminates the need for a transport-launch container and folding wings.
However, this design choice increases pre-launch preparation time to 20–40 minutes. Despite this, experts consider the trade-off justified given the missile's combat potential. The FP-5 is also equipped with a satellite navigation system resistant to electronic warfare, along with an inertial guidance system, ensuring high accuracy and reliability.
Drone Counterpart and Strategic Implications
Defence Express suggests that the developers of the FP-5 missile may also be involved in creating the high-precision FP-1 drone. This UAV has already demonstrated its effectiveness and accuracy in recent operations. Notably, these drones were used to destroy the command post of the 132nd Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces in Yenakiieve and to strike a defense factory in Arzamas.
The Milanion Group, which is responsible for the FP-5, is headquartered in the UAE. In 2021, the company signed a cooperation agreement with a major Ukrainian defense company. Additionally, Milanion NTGS operates in the UK, indicating a global presence and strategic partnerships.
Future Developments and Strategic Goals
Earlier this spring, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the acceleration of ballistic missile development. The Presidential Office announced plans to create a missile with a range of up to 700 kilometers. These developments underscore Ukraine's commitment to enhancing its military capabilities and securing its strategic interests.
