Two Stylists in Wichita Falls Offer Free Back-to-School Haircuts

Community Effort to Support Students with Free Haircuts
In a heartwarming gesture, two locally-owned salons in Wichita Falls are coming together to offer free haircuts for students ahead of the new school year. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families and ensure that every child feels confident and ready for the academic year.
Marianne Gallups, owner of Pretty Please & Co., and Samantha Fancher, owner of Cuts by Sam, have joined forces to provide this service. The event will take place on Saturday, August 9, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Pretty Please & Co., located at 4020 Kemp Boulevard, Suite E, in the plaza directly behind Best Buy.
This event is not just about haircuts; it's also an opportunity for local businesses to contribute to the community. Several other businesses will be present, offering free school supplies, snacks, drinks, and even freeze-dried candies to those who attend. It’s a collaborative effort that brings together different sectors of the community to support students.
Gallups and Fancher, both residents and business owners in Wichita Falls, emphasized their commitment to giving back to the community. They believe that supporting students is a way to repay the community for its support over the years.
As both God-fearing women in sobriety, they felt that this initiative was a natural step. Gallups shared her personal connection to the cause, explaining that her aunt, Rose Lopez, was a hairdresser who inspired her. “It’s huge to me to be able to give back,” she said. “I try to do things with my salon and my business that revert back to her and what she meant to me.”
Fancher added that the initiative is a full-circle moment. She understands the challenges faced by families, especially single-parent households. As a single mother herself, she knows the stress of managing expenses. “If we can help minimize the stress and the financial load for back-to-school… I want to help,” she said.
To ensure that as many students as possible receive a haircut, Gallups and Fancher have requested that all students attending the event come with clean, wet hair and without any specialty haircut requests. This allows them to maximize the number of haircuts they can provide.
This initiative is part of a broader trend where local businesses are teaming up to support students returning to school. In addition to Gallups and Fancher, other businesses are also offering free haircuts:
- Wichita Falls Barber Academy – Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
- Gloss & Groom – Monday, August 11, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
More businesses are expected to join this list as information becomes available. This collective effort highlights the power of community collaboration and the importance of supporting students during a critical time of the year.
By providing free haircuts, these businesses are not only helping families save money but also boosting the confidence of students as they start the new school year. It’s a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.
