Investigative Actions Against Former Jan. 6 Committee Members

Ed Martin, the weaponization czar under President Trump, has hinted at potential future investigative actions against several individuals associated with the defunct House Select Committee on the January 6th attacks. This includes Senator Adam Schiff and other members of the committee who were not pardoned by former President Joe Biden.

Martin, who leads the Justice Department’s Weaponization Working Group, mentioned a criminal probe involving Schiff related to allegations of mortgage fraud. He also suggested that there may be more actions in the pipeline.

“There’s a referral from Bill Pulte about mortgage fraud about Adam Schiff. That’s publicly discussed. His own lawyers have been out there,” Martin stated during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures.

He did not elaborate on what else might be coming, but his remarks indicate that additional investigations could be on the horizon.

Mortgage Fraud Allegations Against Senator Adam Schiff

In May, William Pulte, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director, referred Schiff to the Justice Department for multiple instances between 2003 and 2019 where he allegedly "falsified bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms."

This includes claims that Schiff listed his Maryland home as a primary residence in multiple mortgage refinancing filings, even though he was an elected member of Congress from California at the time. Some lawmakers do have homes in both their states and the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia area while serving in Congress. However, Pulte alleged that Schiff also sought a similar exemption for a Burbank, Calif., condo, which he also claimed as his primary residence.

Additional Accusations Against Senator Schiff

In a separate matter, Schiff faced accusations from a former Democratic House Intelligence Committee aide who alleged that the then-congressman approved leaks of classified information to harm President Trump during the height of Russiagate.

According to an FBI memo obtained by The Post, DOJ officials concluded that Schiff may have had liability protections for those leaks under the speech and debate clause of the Constitution.

“All we’re going to do, again, is get to the facts of this and use all the tools that we have in our system,” Martin emphasized.

Investigations into New York Attorney General Letitia James

Last week, Martin was seen in Brooklyn examining a multi-family residential property owned by New York Attorney General Letitia James, which is under a mortgage fraud inquiry.

Pulte alleged that the AG may have “falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government-backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.” Similar to the Schiff accusations, Pulte claimed that James declared a Norfolk, Virginia, property purchased in 2023 as her “principal residence” while referring to her Brooklyn brownstone, which she has owned since 2001, as her second residence.

Broader Implications for the Jan. 6 Committee

Beyond Schiff and James, Martin also indicated that he is reviewing members of the since-defunct House Select Jan. 6 Committee, despite Biden’s sweeping 11th-hour pardon for the panel.

“We’re all in that too,” Martin said. “A lot of people did not get a pardon that were involved in the select committee, and they ought to be keeping an eye on their mailbox, because there’s a lot to be asked about.”

Martin did not specify names but noted that US Attorney General Pam Bondi “let us loose on” issues of alleged government weaponization.

These developments suggest that the Justice Department is preparing for further scrutiny of individuals connected to the January 6th events and related investigations. As more details emerge, the implications for those involved remain significant.
