Trump's Outburst on Truth Social: A Rant Against Critics and a Boast About the White House
Donald Trump unleashed a series of intense posts on Truth Social over the weekend, addressing criticism from his recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, attacking a Democratic senator, and showcasing his pride in the White House flags. The posts reflected his ongoing frustration with political opponents and media coverage.
Trump’s activity on Truth Social began early on Sunday, with a flurry of messages targeting critics of his Alaska meeting with Putin. He specifically called out MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace and other figures who had expressed disapproval of the summit. His anger extended into the night, as he continued to defend the meeting while also preparing for his upcoming talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In one post, Trump criticized Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, calling him “unattractive” both inside and out. He claimed that Murphy’s statement about the summit being a failure was incorrect, saying, “Actually, ‘nobody got anything,’ too soon, but getting close.” Trump also accused Murphy and others, like former National Security Advisor John Bolton, of making it harder to end the war with Russia.
Murphy had previously described the meeting as a disaster, arguing that Trump played directly into Putin’s hands by inviting him to the U.S. In response, Trump insisted that Putin would have preferred the meeting to take place elsewhere. He claimed that the media would have criticized any alternative location, saying, “These people are sick!”
The summit, which took place in Alaska, marked the first time a Russian leader had set foot on U.S. soil in over a decade. Putin, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes, received a red-carpet welcome from Trump.
Preparing for Talks with Zelensky
As preparations for his meeting with Zelensky continued, Trump made a pointed comment about Ukraine’s potential NATO membership and the status of Crimea. He warned that Ukraine should not expect NATO membership or the return of Crimea, stating, “Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE.”
This message set an uneasy tone for the upcoming discussions, as Zelensky was expected to arrive in Washington for his second visit to the White House. Alongside him were several European leaders, including Britain’s Keir Starmer, Germany’s Friedrich Merz, and France’s Emmanuel Macron.
Trump also highlighted the significance of hosting so many world leaders at the White House, claiming that the media would portray it as a loss for him. However, he insisted it was a great honor for America, saying, “It is a great honor for America!!!”
A Brief Pause and a Return to Old Themes
After a short break, Trump returned to one of his favorite talking points, claiming that the U.S. had gone from being “an almost DEAD COUNTRY” a year ago to the “HOTTEST Country anywhere in the World.” He added a humble brag, saying, “What a difference a President makes!!!”
His rant took a brief pause before shifting focus to the White House flags he had installed earlier in the year. Trump posted a message praising the two large American flags at the front entrances, calling them “FANTASTIC” and emphasizing their importance. He had previously told reporters that these were the best poles anywhere in the country or the world.
A New Distraction: Shifting Focus to Obama
Trump then shared clips of Fox News segments, focusing on one of his favorite new distractions—former President Barack Obama. This move suggested a shift in attention away from the recent summit and toward another political target.
Zelensky, for his part, confirmed his arrival in Washington on Sunday night, expressing a shared desire to end the war quickly and reliably. He emphasized the need for a lasting peace, noting that Ukraine was forced to give up Crimea and parts of Donbas in the past, only for Russia to use that as a springboard for further aggression.
Zelensky also thanked the U.S. and its allies for their support, stating that Ukraine would continue to fight for its land and independence. He urged Russia to end the war, which he said it started, and expressed hope that the combined strength of the U.S., Europe, and its allies would lead to a real peace.
