He previously clerked for Justice Alito and served as general counsel to Texas Governor Greg Abbott. One notable case involved upholding a Texas law that aimed to regulate social media censorship, which was later overturned by the Supreme Court. James Ho, also from the Fifth Circuit, has a background of supporting immigration restrictions, a key focus for Trump. He recently criticized lower court judges for not allowing the president to use the Alien Enemies Act to deport certain immigrants.
