Trump Claims Jeffrey Epstein 'Stole' Virginia Giuffre from Mar-a-Lago Spa

Trump's Claims About Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre
President Donald Trump has made several statements regarding his past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender. According to Trump, Epstein "stole" Virginia Giuffre from her job at the spa of Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. This claim was made during a press briefing on Tuesday, where Trump discussed the ongoing legal battles involving Epstein.
Giuffre later came forward with allegations that she had been sexually abused by Epstein as a teenager and was passed around to other men who also abused her. These claims have been part of a broader narrative surrounding Epstein's criminal activities and the individuals involved.
Trump mentioned that this incident was one of at least two instances where Epstein allegedly took workers from the Mar-a-Lago spa. He claimed that he cut ties with Epstein in the mid-2000s after being warned about his actions. When asked aboard Air Force One if some of those workers were young women, Trump responded, "Well, I don't want to say, but everyone knows the people that were taken."
He described how Epstein had recruited Giuffre while she was working at the spa. Trump stated, "He stole her." Additionally, he noted that Giuffre had no complaints about him or his organization, saying, "she had no complaints about us, as you know, none whatsoever."
Ghislaine Maxwell and Congressional Testimony
The situation surrounding Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s convicted accomplice, has also drawn significant attention. A spokesperson for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform recently stated that the panel would not consider granting congressional immunity for any testimony from Maxwell. This statement followed a letter from Maxwell’s lawyer, David Oscar Markus, who outlined conditions for her potential testimony.
Markus indicated that Maxwell would be willing to testify openly before Congress if she received clemency from Trump, either through a pardon or commutation of her 20-year prison term. However, the Oversight Committee has declined to grant immunity for her testimony, emphasizing that they will respond to Maxwell's attorney soon.
Maxwell was convicted of crimes related to procuring underage girls for sexual abuse by Epstein. Her case has sparked calls for more information about Epstein and Maxwell, especially after the Justice Department faced backlash for refusing to release investigative files in Epstein's case despite prior promises.
The Role of Congress and the Justice Department
Members of Congress and others are pushing for greater transparency regarding Epstein and Maxwell. The Oversight Committee chairman, Rep. James Comer, emphasized the importance of congressional oversight of the federal government's enforcement of sex trafficking laws. He wrote to Maxwell, requesting her testimony to inform potential legislative solutions to improve efforts to combat sex trafficking and reform the use of non-prosecution agreements in sex-crime investigations.
Maxwell recently spoke with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche for hours over two consecutive days. During this meeting, Blanche sought information about potential other abusers connected to Epstein. The Justice Department granted limited immunity to Maxwell for this interview.
Trump's Defamation Lawsuit Against Murdoch
In addition to the issues involving Epstein and Maxwell, Trump has also filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against media mogul Rupert Murdoch and others. The lawsuit is related to an article published by The Wall Street Journal, which alleged that Trump sent Epstein a "bawdy" letter in 2003 to mark his 50th birthday. Trump denies writing the letter.
On Monday, Trump's lawyers requested a judge to order Murdoch to sit for a deposition within 15 days, citing his age and health concerns. Trump expressed uncertainty about whether Murdoch controls the Journal, stating, "I would have assumed that Rupert Murdoch controls [the Journal], but, you know, maybe does, maybe doesn't."
He added that the defendants in the lawsuit "want to settle," indicating a potential resolution. However, it remains to be seen whether this will happen. The matter continues to unfold as legal proceedings move forward.
