Trump's Evolving Story on Epstein and the Spa Employees

President Donald Trump has been trying to move past the controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files, but his recent statements have only added more complexity to the narrative. The latest development involves Trump’s acknowledgment of why he and Epstein had a falling out over two decades ago. This revelation has sparked renewed scrutiny into Trump’s relationship with the disgraced sex trafficker.

On Tuesday, Trump confirmed that the employees who Epstein allegedly stole from him were young women working in the spa at his Mar-a-Lago club. “The answer is yes, they were,” he told reporters while traveling back from Scotland. This admission raises questions about Trump’s honesty regarding his interactions with Epstein and whether he was aware of the accused sex trafficker’s misconduct. Notably, Trump has never been charged or accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein.

A day earlier, the president had claimed their split was due to Epstein “stealing people that worked for me,” including after being warned not to do it again. However, he did not mention the gender of these employees at the time. The White House had previously stated that Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago “for being a creep.” On Tuesday, Trump suggested that the reasons for this decision were somewhat similar.

This story takes a different turn when looking back at 2019, when reports indicated that the fallout between Trump and Epstein stemmed from a competition over a Palm Beach property called Maison de l’Amitié. This detail contrasts sharply with the current narrative, adding another layer of confusion to the timeline.

Trump has been relatively forthcoming in his recent comments. He explained that Epstein hired away Mar-a-Lago spa employees multiple times, even after being warned against it, which led to Trump cutting ties with Epstein and barring him from the club. “I said, ‘Listen, we don’t want you taking our people, whether it was spa or not spa,’” Trump said. “And then not too long after that he did it again and I said, ‘outta here.’”

He also mentioned that one of the employees might have been Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of Epstein who died by suicide earlier this year. “I think she worked at the spa,” Trump said. “I think that was one of the people, yeah. He stole her.”

These statements align with the White House’s previous claims that Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep. However, they differ from the 2019 Washington Post report that suggested their falling out was tied to a property dispute.

Despite these accounts, there are still many unanswered questions. Characterizing Epstein’s actions as simply stealing employees, even if they were young women from the spa, seems inconsistent with the gravity of recruiting someone into a sex-trafficking ring. This discrepancy adds to the growing concerns about what Trump knew and when regarding Epstein’s activities.

Several other incidents have fueled speculation about Trump’s awareness of Epstein’s conduct. In 2002, Trump made a comment about how Epstein “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” There are also accounts of individuals expressing discomfort with Epstein’s behavior around young women, including a Florida businessman who reportedly warned Trump about a potential “calendar girl” event with Epstein.

Additionally, longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone’s 2016 book included a quote where Trump described Epstein’s swimming pool as full of beautiful young girls. Another reported incident involved Trump severing ties with Epstein after he allegedly hit on a member’s teenage daughter.

The timeline of these events is particularly significant. According to former Trump aide Sam Nunberg, Trump’s decision to cut ties with Epstein occurred years before the public became aware of the sex-trafficking investigation. This suggests that Trump may have known about Epstein’s unsavory activities earlier than others.

As Trump continues to downplay or avoid discussing these issues, the questions surrounding his knowledge and actions remain unresolved. His evolving narrative on Epstein and the spa employees only deepens the mystery and invites further scrutiny.
